Are the DVDs from North America (ebay doesn't necessarilly count). DVDs and their players are region coded. You can't play European movies in North American DVD players. This is done so that the companies that make the DVDs can charge different regions different prices and make sure that one region's people cannot play a cheaper version from another region.

Also, all DVD players don't support DVD-R or DVD+R. If you burn videos from your computer onto a DVD, it may not work. If you are to brn a video, make sure you aren't burning compressed video files (.avi, .wmv, etc.). You have to convert it to DVD format. Search www.sourceforge.net for free convertors.

There are ways to hack your DVD player so it will be region-free. You may want to look into this. Make sure you search for your specific DVD player for each one is made region-free (if possible at all) in different ways.

I hope that helped. =)

First thing that came to my mind was regional.
Are both your player and DVDs from the same region?
Next came are any of the DVDs that you are trying to play copies? If so then the problem lies with your discs, they are not formatted to play in your player.

it could be because the discs that wont play were sold in another country and are out of region. DVDs from england wont play on my player. most computers play out of region discs so test the DVDs in your computer and if they play then it is because they are out-of-region discs.
