What do you think of this quote?
People ask me, what is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity.
We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven. One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me. I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense. Life is a series of problems: you are in one now, you're just coming out of one or you're getting ready to go into another one. The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.
-Rick Warren (Interview), author of The Purpose Driven Life.

It amazes me the differing opinions on faith and the truth about God, but I'm sure my statement will anger someone who thinks "how could I know my truth is the truth?" Well, I have a personal intimate relationship with the LORD. I love your question. It is a MODEL question!!!
Yes, I am living nothing but a purpose driven life. I make many mistakes and I am a sinner, but I am forgiven and given new graces every day because thank God, I believe HIM for eternity and abundant living!
I completely agree with Rick Warren's words above. Implicitly. People get aggravated when they crack open a book and realize that there is going to have to be a lot of introspection and application, i.e. YOU not the author are responsible to get out and do the work. That is what this life is about. God gives us seeds, or we can think of it like the parable of the talents: what we do with His promises reveals our gratitude, character and understanding of life. He is only pleased with faith and fruitfullness.
Thanks, this was a great way to begin my Tuesday. You've INSPIRED me!
God Bless Ya

I started to read this book because everyone was so GA GA over it; but something left me cold. The right words were there, but something about seemed less than genuine. But I couldn't put my finger on it. I dutifully slogged through a few chapters, but didn't finish.
Then my mother read a book by Dr. Marshall Davis, a former pastor of ours, responding to the book. In just a few pages he nailed it- the Rick Warren book, though catchy, was based too much on self-help books in form, even to the point of straining the translation of scripture to match his talking points. The list of many Bibles used in this way can be annoying, especially when I can't even recognize passages that I know.
If you're excited now, that's great! Go with it. But I do not believe the "Mega Church" style is for everyone, and if you're looking for deeper insight, try this book too to add to your knowledge.
PS This minister performed my marriage ceremony 17 years ago; I make no $ from it nor does he. It's that vow of poverty thing, you know? God Bless.

"God" or what ever gave you this life to enjoy. Do you think he wants a bunch of mindless automatons?
Crap like this has been used over centuries by churches to tell people what to do, telling them hey, don't worry, you're check is in the mail(eternal life), in the meantime , keep doing what we command you, b/c god only talks directly to us, not you"
Most governments use this tactic to incite their people to wage the war they chose to even if it Almost all wars ( Catholic Vs Islam. Islam / Jewish,..... more). often times the government really has altereer motives, land, resources, but again encites heir people ,by saying if god be for us then who is against us?"
So Life is meant to be enjoyed or else when you show up in Heaven andGod will ***** slap you for being an ignorant sheep and ruining his greatest creation by spending your life on your knees instead of trying to make something out of yourself and those around you.
Ok I never read the book, the guy looks skeezy, and didn't his wife just get kicked of an airplane for acting like a wack job. These self help snappy little books come out every 4 years, if it works for you then cool.
