Group dates are ok for 8th graders and when your child is in high school, i would say 16 or 17.

Its a decision that kids usually make on their own. And also, now adays, dating is not as "serious" as it used to be. Elementary kids might say "will you go out with me?", "yes!"; thats considered "going out" or dating among kids. I think in jr high-high school, group dates are fun (movies, the mall, etc)

mine started in 6th grade, but it lasted a week and she broke up with him, didn't date in 7th, but had 3 boyfriends in 8th- her friend's parents would let her date til she was 16, but she did anyway, so don't even try that one
