Not sure if you meant B.E or C.E here but it means thus.

C.E. = Common Era (means the era after B.C.)

They decided to change the B.C (before Christ) to B.C.E meaning
before common era, and C.E (common era) replaced A.D (annon Domini)

So the year 1 A.D was the first year of the common era and we are now in the 2,006th year of the common era.

I have not come across the term B.E. in my historical studies of the time.

I don't know about BE, but the one refering to Jesus Christ is "BC", meaning "before Christ".
