I want to get it in .300 Win. Mag. I just want to know what is good and bad about this rifle and if anyone who owns one thinks its a fair and good deal.

I have owned (and own) Ruger pistols & revolvers and they are excellent. I currently own a Safari Grade Ruger #1 in .458 Winchester Magnum, but I've only had it two weeks and have not yet shot it (took me a week to find ammo).

About the Ruger 77, I've heard that they are strong and well made. I have heard that accuracy is 'iffy' depending on the particular rifle. I tend to disbelieve that. The specific complaints I've heard are about those Ruger 77s chambered for the .7mm Remington Magnum cartridge. The .7mm, like the .300 Win. Mag. you are considering, are intense cartridges and I would attribute the 'iffy' nature of their accuracy to shooter error, rather than the gun itself.

I do own a Remington 700 in .25-06. Although the .25-06 is not nearly as 'intense' as the .300 Win. Mag. I will say that my old Remington (purchased new in 1974) is the most accurate, out of the box rifle I have ever owned. And I have owned a few in my day.

Some other reader suggested you buy the Remington 700 in the caliber you are considering. Sage advise, but if you prefer the Ruger 77 I don't think you'll go wrong. Maybe you can let us know how it shoots later. You can always trade your Ruger 77 for another make or model if you don't like how it shoots.

Hi Chaz: I have had a few Ruger Model 77's both old and the new Mark II's. The gun is tough, The only thing i didnt care for was the factory trigger. I have replaced mine with Timney triggers...approximately 80 bucks more and you have an excellenct rifle. .300 Win. Mag. is an excellent round also. You must hunt big game mostly. before settling on the win mag take a quick look at the .300WSM...Good luck,

That cartridge is alot bigger than my .22-250. I like the look of mine (M77 MKII S.S. laminated stock) I think that it was made in the early nineties and my only gripe is the heavy trigger pull, but accessories are readily availible for that.

A good solid gun with a reliable action made by a reputable firearm maker. That's what I think of it.

I own A 77 mkII in the 30-06 cal. and I love that rifle. The stock trigger is a little stiff, but that is an easy fix. There is a three way safety on the bolt which allows you to load and eject shells with the safety on. bottom line, it shoots straight and the action is smooth, and that is all that matters.

It's not bad, but personally i'd chose a remington 700 action over the ruger m77.

I think they are good guns I believe they are a Canadian
made Savage Arms firearm.
I do know they are a division of Savage and they make good
guns.
