The Bible is a nearly impenetrable compilation of 2000 years' worth of mythology, poetry, inspired ranting, history, pseudohistory, ethnic propaganda, wisdom literature, eroticism, apocalyptic, etc. Telling a nonbeliever to "read the Bible" is about the most moronic thing you could possibly do. In fact, it's fairly obvious to me that anyone remotely familiar with the texts would never suggest such a thing. I'd say "read it yourself, and decide how you would react as an unbeliever if you saw some of this cr*p for the first time." And to every frikkin' question, some nutjob has to say "read the Bible." Argh!

Folks, *I am a Christian,* and this question was prompted by the first response to the last question I asked:

Christians will not convert any unbeliever by telling them to read the Bible! It's a lazy cop-out!

Before you pop off on me....hear me out. I am a Born Again Christian....however reading the Bible didn't come easily for me....reading the Bible is a study and needs to be done in a setting where you can get answers from someone you trust and with Bible study guides. Telling someone with no prior knowledge of the Bible to just read it usually throws them for a loop. My walk with the Lord was done in baby steps....it's taken me years to get to where I am...... I'm not saying you have to convert....by no means am I saying that. I don't even own a traditional copy of the Bible....makes some people I know cringe...but I reserached it out and found one that reads clearly and I actually found myself enjoying it and wanting to know more..

Hi...
Yes I agree with u. The bibke nowdays is no longer anymore. There are already too many manipulation inside that are stronly related to the human needed. So that is why the ew testament and the old oneis absolutely different and can not be justified.

It was started from the Rome Byzantium, they manipulated that Bible containing to avoid the appearance of the last prophet Muhammad SAW. I`m not lie and try to provoke u. But use your logic to think about it.

I`m sorry. but have u all made some observation about the each holy-book ??? Such as the bible, Al-Qur`an, Wedha, etc.

Each people translate the Bible as they want. So that is why, the Bible from USA is different with the one in China and so on. And how about the Al-Qur`an ??? The Al-Qur`an is absolutely pure. Allah is promised to defend the purity of the contain by HIM-SELF. Nobody can change the contain. And nobody caould re-make it and make the similar hings like Al-Qur`an, even tough all f the scientist all of the human and all of the satan and angel, no-body could make the other book that as complete as the Al-Qur`an.

-Do not get provoke by my answer-

Two points:

1) Not to quote the bible again but it says that the things of God and spirituality are as foolishness to the wise of the world. So your reaction to the bible as impenetrable and seeing your already predisposition for unbelieve confirms the power of this 200 year old book.

2) The easiest thing to do if you dont want to hear anything about the bible is to go to another forum. Being on religion and spirituality and expecting to never see a biblical based belief would be like wanting to discuss world affairs without anyone bringing up anything about the middle east

It's their duty as Christians to spread the "good news".
Back in the days of early Christianity, the only way to have power was to be born into it. When the superstitious people of the time had no means of explaining events such as sickness, crop failure, and death they turned to spiritualists who soon learned that with a mass following, they too had power, money, and influence. It soon became a race between the different religious leaders to gain the most followers and therefore, the most power.
This practice still exists today as religious groups use their mass following to influence city, state, and federal lawmakers by electing representatives and leaders into positions to pass laws that support their views. Look at the attempts today to accept "intelligent design" (code for creationism) while denouncing scientific evidence of evolution in our public schools.
I agree the "bible" is a great mythological story with many good points about living a moral life. (something many do intuitively without Christianity) I cannot believe how some use it to try explaining every detail of life on Earth, science, math, and historical evidence do a much better job of that.

What I find absolutely hilarious is the fact I have never asked a question about religion nor have I very rarely ever answered a question about religion (other than to a christian) but yet I see all the time nonchristians are asking and answering questions about religion. I checked this one guys profile out who claims to be atheist but every question he has ever asked or answered had to do with religion. I don't get that! For someone who wants nothing to do with it, why bother at all asking? If it frustrates you that much, stop going in the religious site and only answer questions that you're interested in. Obviously if someone is answering a question that says read the bible then my guess would be it is a religious question. Stay away from it!

Okay, then what else shall we talk about? Those things of the world? Would you have us turn against God? How about blaspheme the Holy Spirit? If we do the last thing then we are automatically sent to hell without a pardon without anything. We end up dead. The Bible for us is the undeniable truth for us to follow and understand what God is presenting to each of us.

I honestly do not want to turn against God and watch my life burn in a fiery pit of Sulfur. While satan is right there offering me another lump of coal onto my head - no thank you! I know how hot that can get, but being there forever?

Okay, here is the deal. You go ahead and hate us and blaspheme the Holy Spirit. And we will leave you alone.

Please be kind enough to read the information below.
Part of the problem is that scriptural Christianity and the lives of people here in America tend to differ. At the root of it, Christianity holds that Christ is superior to man; not equal to man (man is a false god; Gen. 3). All men make mistakes; (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23).
There is a man-made old testament of Genesis-Malachi, and the scriptural old testament; i.e. the law of Moses. (Per scripture, the old testament was done away; Hebrews). The Jews were told to have two or more witnesses (about three times Deut. 10-20), and the Christians were given the same command (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1). When this concept is applied, one finds the 'old testament' is the law of Moses. My 'two or more witnesses' for that assertion include Joshua (Joshua 8:31), David (2 Kings 2:3), Solomon (1 Kings 8:9), Nehemiah (Nehemiah 8:1), Daniel (Daniel 9:11-13), Malachi (Malachi 4:4)i, Jesus (Matt. 19:7-9), God the Father (Matt. 17; in effect he backs up whatever Jesus his Son says), and the apostle Paul. (The law is referred to as the old testament (KJV), many other English versions translate it as old covenant in 2 Cor. 3:13-14). Perhaps this is part of why the beast in Revelation 17 is the USA, and the harlot Babylon is the leadership of the USA. (See what happens to the beast and harlot in Revelation 18).
God apparently had me think of this text recently; Acts 18:24-28 (please read) regarding Priscilla, Aquilla, and Apollos. Apparently, Apollos was eager to grow. I hope many Christians in this country presently are in the Apollos category.
A major difference between Catholics and Protestants stems fro the fact that they utilize different Bibles. Speaking personally, I was raised in a “P:rotestant’ congregation. However, after studying for myself, I agree on this component with the Catholic faith. (I disagree with the Catholic faith on other aspects).

Yep, that's the way to teach those dumb Christians...Slam them on their Bible! I mean it was written like thousands of years ago with a bunch of translations and by like 50 different authors. I mean it is just a dumb book right? So what if it comments on every element of human nature which is just as true today as it was yesterday. And so what if there is a remarkable harmony between all the writers of the bible despite the fact that they wrote over many different centuries. Who cares it has practical relevant advice on every area of life from business to marriage to healthy living. And its irrelevent that the Bible contains many prophecies which have come true and are unfolding at this very moment. I mean other books have done the same thing...haven't they?

OH...wait a sec....

I guess I would say to you that everything you say might be completely correct. It might all be wrong and mean absolutely nothing. However given that salvation is a gift that is freely given. All you have to do is believe and truly repent of your sins. Then I hardly see the harm!!!

I find it interesting that you don't rant against any other writings. I can only assume that the Bible holds some special conviction which is bothering you. I hope you figure out what it is!!!

Before you call it a bunch of myths, here's a question for you. Do you believe that Alexander the Great lived? You do? Did you know that there are only FOUR manuscripts that experts have that even mention him. FOUR! And he "lived" before Jesus. Now, did you know that there are over 24,000 manuscripts from the New Testement that are dated no later than 300AD? And they have been proven archeaologically? They have been proven true and reliable. Science backs up the Bible. Everyone that has lived before us, especially centuries upon centuries ago, we have to have FAITH that they lived and that the "experts" know what they are talking about. The only difference is that we have faith in a book that has been proven TRUTH.

So what are you going to believe? 4 manuscripts or 24,000?
