My neighbor, who happens to be a overly obese woman, keeps stealing my golden retriever. Every time I go to her house to retrieve my dog, she states that she cannot give up my dog because the humane society will not let her have a dog that is bigger than a chiuaua. (I think it is because they think she cannot feed herself and the dog). So she says I have to go to the humane society and buy her a pitbull-chiuaua mix. What should I do?

Keep your dog away from her. If she wants a dog, I'm sure she can figure out a way to get one that doesn't involve the humane society. Someone has a loose screw somewhere....This is a strange story.

MEAN WAY: First, I'd let her know that your dog is YOUR dog, not hers. And that you're under no obligation to buy her one. And on that point, you more than likely should not, as, if the humane society has blocked her from getting a large dog, your buying her one would involve you in thwarting the HS's mandate. So, I would not do that. That would get you in trouble.
Further, let her know how the consequences of your helping her get a large dog would hurt you. Let her know also that if she keeps taking your dog, you will call the law.
If she persists and keeps taking your dog, and begging you to buy her one, THEN call the law. That way, you can testify that you have warned her already about taking your dog.
NICE WAY: She probably wants company. Perhaps you should arrange to spend an hour or so with her once a week and bring your dog. Just sit and talk. Let her know though that you don't appreciate her taking your dog. But she seems like maybe she is lonely.

Call the cops on her. The humane society not letting her adopt is not your problem. I'm sure they have a good reason. She shouldn't be stealing your dog, nor should she be trying to manipulate you into getting her a dog.

Well obviously if she has gotten in trouble with the Humane Society she has problems Like obsessive compulsive disorder or another mental disability. I would call the Police and after that order a restraining order to stay off of your property.

Perhaps, its not really the dog she's after...but some good company. Maybe she just wants to be friends with you. But if that's most unlikely, keep your dog inside. Just wondering though...if she's that obese (and I assume that heavy...) How does she manage to steal your dog?

Be thankful that the overly obese woman hasn't eaten your golden retriever. Then there would be no more retriever to be retrieved.

get the police involved...and possibly the humane society also...the more people involved and the more charges filed for her stealing a dog, someone will have to soon realize that she is a nut job.

If you want to be nice, just keep saying no.
If you want to be mean, tell her that her weight keeps her from being able to properly exercize a larger dog. It would be unfair to the dog.

Get a camera and secretly record what's going on. That's hard proof. Also, keep your dog on a leash.....and don't let your dog out of your sight.

You need to report the situation to the police. If she is stealing your dog, she is stealing your property. If she is holding it for ransome like you say, it may be past just stealing.
