i hate my name and want to change it. unfortunately, low on funds right now.

Technically, as long as you are not running from the law in any way, you can just call yourself the new name. My Grandmother lived for years as Naomi, but her name was actually Dora! She never filled out paperwork, but her legal documents were all filled out Naomi. It's what everyone knew her as, so it was her "legal" name........... now, if you write a will in the new name, you better get it changed for real lest you want relatives able to contest it.

Get married. You can change your name completly when you get married. And in reality it is not hard to change your name. My granmothers real name is Martha and she has gone by Sally her entire life. You should call your city hall and ask them what the regulations are for changing your name in your state/county though they will probably have more specifc instructions on how to do it

well, if it's Frankie jean, i love it.
anyway, i wanted to point out something: legally. free. you cannot put those two words in the same sentence if it involves the government - and changing your name does. so you're out of luck, Frankie.
but PS I adore that name. i want to have a girl and name her Frankie!

If you are getting a divorce you can get it free while filing if you have it put in the paers you are taking your maiden name back. And that is not free if you have to pay for the divorce.

definitely free.
but in actual, no siree, you need a lot of money for your lawyer.
