I have had my cat since 1989. I think there might be someone out there that knows there pet well enough to tell the difference in there pets dreaming patterns. I have talked with my Vet. The phycology of the cat is not there expertise. Are there any cat wisperers out there that have knowledge of these kind-of sleeping patterns.

Your cat is 17 years old. He probably can't get around as well as he used to and is probably having dreams about what he used to do when he was young. I found that when my parents' older cat had a dream like that and woke up disoriented, we would calmly talk to her and pat her, and she would settle down.
