Some people don't want to believe that man has someone they must answer to. To believe in God ,one must first believe they aren't the most powerful being. Without God the saying "Do what you want" is how you act. God wants us to love everyone even our enemies.

Hate to say it, but, to be perfectly honest, for those that actually try to tell someone there is none, it's probably because belief seems silly to them. It feels no different then listening to someone go on about a fairytale in a book and be convinced that's it's real. Like someone believes some girl really had a magic fairy godmother and a pumpkin turned into a coach and so on, and that they are sure it all happened. In that scenario, most of us would have the urge to say it isn't real, that it's silly! And, honestly, to people who don't believe it feels about the same and most have that same urge to say something. Some keep the thought inside their head better then others.

Also some here are just expressing their view by saying there is none just the same as others express their view by saying that there is.

Not trying to put down your beliefs or anything, or tell you that you're wrong, just being honest about how it is with some of those that say that stuff.

You know what surprises me about the answers (up to LL at this point)?

The fact no one stopped and thought "Hey, maybe it's because we Christians hold all the political power in America, and pretty much all the military power in the world, and we're not doing a very good job of instilling Christian values like peace, love, help for the needy, etc...in fact, we're the most hated country in the world because we don't do enough of any of those things."

Interesting that none of the Christians think non-believers could possibly have a good motive for their deeds, like trying to wake people up to the way the world is going right now. Global warming, escalating violence in the Mid-East (which has -some- Christians approaching ecstasy), the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, persecution of minorities, the list is endless.

What -does- it reveal when Christians are so arrogant they can see no reason why anyone would object to their management of the planet?

I think there's something quite disturbing about seeing people believe in things that seem to us such obvious nonsense. Wouldn't you be inclined to want to enlighten someone, if you knew they believed a lie? It's hard not to.

Besides, as several others have said, atheists don't preach. You will never, ever see someone pop up on a discussion group about (say) trains or guinea pigs or nudism and announce that there is no god and you're heading for eternal oblivion when you die. It simply doesn't happen! Only religious folks feel the need to espouse their beliefs in places and times where it's inappropriate and unwanted. Only religious folks are determined to push their ideas on others uninvited. Atheists simply respond to religious nonsense when it arises, and try to help people see the light. In other words, if it weren't for religious people trying to tell us that there's a god, no-one would ever try to make others realise that there's no god. See, it's all you theists' fault ;-)

Some say because it reminds non-believers of their need, and the part they are missing in life. That could cause anger, sarcasm, name-calling....
There is a place in our spirit that only God can fill. Without him, we have restless souls, and minds that can become skillful at denial.
Is it because many do not want to believe that there is something greater than themselves, and how admitting that would change their lives - that could be very uncomfortable. Maybe it is easier to keep God at arm's length and be supposedly more comfortable.
But the truth is God has the truth and peace that we seek. And fits all the pieces together.

Usually one of three reasons:

1) Bitterness over terrible things that have happened in their lives. Sometimes it makes it hard for them to believe that there is a God. (Even though there IS and He cares. They just haven't found Him yet.)

2) Pride - meaning they want to do everything on their own and don't want to admit they might reach the "end of their rope" or the end of their own ability at some points in their lives

3) Rebellion. They know if they admit there IS a God there will be someone they have to answer to, and that they will have to change.

Let me ask you...why do some people try so hard to make others think that there is a god? Hmmm

Why do some people try to convince other there is a god? We have opinions, but we should respect others. I try to convince people there is no god because there is not god. I would respect their beliefs, if they would respect mind. No more spreading the Gospel, etc, and no problem. Keep religion in church, and your home, that is it.

Is it so hard to think that there might not be one?
And to those who say better safe than sorry isnt that a slap in the face of your god?
