I recently dyed my hair but I want to go back to my original color. If I darken my hair, can I ever lighten it again? If so, will it harm my hair?

ive done it,dyed it too much actually.lol.it's not good for your hair but it's possible, wait a month or so,then try the lighter color...if not..then you may have to wait longer or you could bleach it..then dye it..that's worst case senario.

The ONLY ways to get rid of black hair is stripping, bleaching or color removing. NO hair color will cover the black. Since you asked this questions lets me know that you are not experienced in coloring hair. I would go to a professional because if you don't know what you are doing then you are going to end up with hair thats red, orange, black, brown and blonde. I've been coloring my hair since I was 12 and I have been back and forth from black to other colors. I am now experienced with getting rid of black hair but it took me years and years of experimenting and alot of mess ups. Your hair will probably come out different shades all over the place which will be very noticable. Ever see a girl pass by with platinum blonde roots and orange hair with alot of black spots in it? That is due to this. Then you will want to fix it by bleaching again and then you will do it so many times to the point where your hair starts breaking off and it will look like crap. Please go to a professional.

Putting too many chemicals on your hair can damage your hair. It is better to allow some time to pass before applying more chemicals, but you can restore or make your hair lighten your hair eventually. After some time has past--at least a month. Buy a lighter color than your former color of hair, because the dark will make the color grab and it will be darker than the shade on the box when you apply it. When you apply it to your hair put it on the ROOTS ONLY for the 25 or 30 minutes. DO NOT PUT IT ALL OVER YOUR HEAD. Wait until the last 5 minutes to put it on rest of your hair. Only let it stay on the longer part of your hair for no more than 5 minutes because it will damage your hair--THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE YOUR ENDS CAN GET BURNED FROM THE CHEMICALS. Be sure to put lots of cream rinse on it, rinse with water and you are done. Good luck!

I understood you want to go back to your original color, nothing will match that, it is a mess when you tri this hair color does ruin your hair, If I may suggest do not die again and forget about it, if you can cut the ends every month this is tedious and anoying at times but it is worth it natural color is a blessing and you dont have to all that mess every fifteen or a month deal, you wont be sorry if you doit now, you will if you wait.

If you do dye it black, when you get tired of that color, don't try to take it out your self,go to a professional. Seriously. If your hair is damaged, taking the black out could damage it allot more. Even if you dye your hair a dark brown, that will probably have to be taken out to if you want to go lighter because dye does not lift dye.

As your hair grows, the dyed portion grows out and you get your original hair color back. As far as undoing a dye job is concerned, I am not sure if you can dye your hair light from a dark job, unless maybe you bleach it.

You must now use a color stripper, stripping out all the darker color, then re-dying. Why are you bothering with this at such a young age? Leave your hair along, dear, you will have to color (the gray) soon enough.

yes and yes. you could get your hair lighter after you dye it darker but that will require either the use of bleach or stripping of your hair, even if you started off with just highlights to get it back to light again, bleach would still be involved, both bleach and stripping breakdown your hair. however you could either take your chances with bleach or stripping if your hair is pretty strong, or you could use a semi-permanent dye to get your hair dark again and it will eventually fade over time and allow you to dye it to a lighter color again and semi-permanent hair dye has to be updated just as soon as permanent dye. so you have choices

It is alot of work, I'd say dont do it if you want lighter hair, you can bleach it down but black it a real tough color to get out.
