I've tried drinking water before going to bed (if I remember to); taking a tylenol before going to bed; alkaseltzer....and then most times - just plain ole' sleeping it off works. My sister and friend sometimes say "have a beer" and just the sound/thought of it makes me gag! I know...some will say "quit drinking"...but seriously, that is not the answer I am looking for. Are some people more prone to getting ill after drinking?

Seriously drinking water is the best remedy, I always have a glass of water beside my alcohol. Drink both at intervals, it does help. Better still gulp down an isotonic drink.

You can avoid it by not drinking too much, but I'm guessing you knew that. Cutting down on sugary drinks helps a lot too. Red wine and champagne give a lot of people bad headaches.

I'd say eat something before drinking, maybe after drinking and before sleeping too, along with the water. Some people will drink a glass of water between each alcoholic bev to space and stay hydrated. Take ibuprofen when you first wake up (keep by bed w/water), then go back to sleep for a little while.

I think it has to do with the type of alcoholic beverage you are having and also the quality.

When I drink gin, I get a terrible hangover. However, when I drink absinthe, no such problem.

When I drink VSOP cognac, I get a terrible hangover. However, when I drink XO cognac, no such problem.

When I drink Chivas 12 years, I get a terrible hangover. However, when I drink Chivas Royal Salute, no such problem.

Alcoholic beverages have different effects on different people. Most drinkers do not realize it. For example, gin has so many botanicals in it. It could be one of them that is affecting (or causing allergies) the drinker, not the alcohol.

You can experiment by just drinking only one type of drink per night and see if it affects you differently (from other drinks). This way, you could narrow it down to the drinks that your body does not like.

Good Luck.

I make sure to eat a lot of bready foods while drinking because they soak up some of the alcohol. I'll also take 2 tylenol before I fall asleep and 2 when I wake up.
I'm not totally refreshed in the morning but I am functional and relatively happy the next day considering how much I must've drunk the night before.

My mom told me many times that when she would go drinking when she was younger she would eat a tablespoon of honey & take 2 tylenol. Then go drinking, & do the same thing when she got home & again in the morning when she woke up. She told me that it helped her avoid hang overs. Just remember that it doesn't work on everyone. They also have hangover pills, although I don't know where they sell them.

I avoid a hangover by not drinking any alcohol. Its an amazing antidote and I always remember exactly what I did the night before, no one ever has any embarrassing stories about me, and I always have a great time watching everyone else make fools of themselves.

Don't be afraid to drink water while you are drinking alchohol. I realize people look at you weird when you walk into a bar and order a jack on the rocks and an ice water. But, that is the ticket for me. Alternate sips of booze and water.

eating before drinking is always a good idea but hydration is important as well if you are partying try drinking a glass of water for every drink you drink also gin and vodka are less hard on the system ( there is less sugar ) try vodka or gin and tonic with lemon or lime its not the booze making you hung over but all the sugar and syrups in the drinks

Drink Gatorade before boozing it up. After you're done drinking make sure to eat some greasy food to absorb the alcohol. If you're gonna fight with your liver you have to make the extra effort to avoid a hangover.
