Another one...after my I pod question. The main reason why I asked that previous question was cause I have been noticing that these last 2-3 years, every time I buy some new "big ticket" item, even from a good reputable store or brand, that there is ALWAYS something wrong with it. E.g. my Toshiba laptop - went back to Toshiba 2x in the last 8 months, with the exact same problem. They fix it, it breaks again. Another one - my Canon camera - broke, went back to Canon, they fix, so far works okay. Next, my Sony Dvd player - won't recognize some DVDs, went back to Sony, they fix - works so far, And it goes on and on..
It just seems that every single electronics I bought in the last year or so is just badly manufactured or something. And everything that can go wrong with it usually happens right after the warranty expires. Does anyone have similar experience?

I thought that **** only happened to me!!
My Kodak digital camera froze up on the 366th day after I bought it. It had a one year warranty of course!!! I called the company: "I'm sorry, sir, but the warranty is only for 1 yr." crap! I eventually sent it for repair but it cost me $150. The camera only cost $250 to start with!
I bought a Canon digital camera once that broke two days after I bought it, and then the replacement malfunctioned too!
Last month I bought a wireless keyboard from HP and it started falling apart & volume knob fell off ... I called HP and they said they couldn't give me a refund because even though there is a one year waranty, since i used it already I voided the waranty.. What the ****???! does that make sense to you?
I think quality control has really gone downhill, or the electronics today are so complicated that so much CAN go wrong.
From now on, I'm getting the extended warranty on gadgets... but that's a rip off too... it really shouldn't be necessary if they just made these things better in the first place!

Most companies can produce perfect, problem free goods, but if they did that, nobody would buy new products, there is also the after sales market, add ons/plug ins etc to improve (or make them work!) and also the extended warranty or insurance they can sell you!
I bought an ipod shuffle, it wasn't compatible with my mac until I bought a USB extension! If thats not an example of bad design or looking for add on sales I don't know what is.

hell yes. everyone is trying to sell, sell, sell....and they start pushing product out too fast and of course they don't take the time to see that it's put together right. I bought a dvd player and the thing never played a dvd. then i got a replacement, and that didn't work either.
A week later, I bought my brother an ipod, and of course that worked for like a week. what a piece of junk! The only brand i haven't had a problem with is sony. i think i might start buying all stuff with sony.

And it is a true quote.
I buy an Ipod, it has problems. I buy a loptop, it has problems. Every electronic I have ever bought has had problems, except the PS2. And I am serious.
I bought a new phone last month. I love it, but it has flaws.

Sorry, that's not my experience at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm a gadget hound as much as the next guy, so I have had my fair share of electronic problems from both big and little brands.
But generally, the stuff I rely on has proven to be pretty bulletproof. For example:
- Blackberry 7510
- iPod 60GB video
- TomTom 300 GPS navigation
- Magnepan 3.5R speakers
- Seagate 100gb portable USB hardrive
- Kurzweil K2600XS synth workstation
- Mackie HR624 studio monitors
- Vizio 50" plasma TV
All have had zero problems to date. Of course, that's probably jinxed them all for good. They'll catch fire tomorrow, for sure.
Sorry.

Do not buy rear projection televisions from Costco. They have the worst tvs that always break.
