There's no such thing as a dog that refuses to eat, only owners who can't wait long enough for Fido to get hungry enough to eat what is placed in front of him. See, Fido knows that if he holds out long enough you'll give in and let him have the good stuff. He's got you trained.

If you have been feeding the dog table or people food that is one reason. No people snacks!
Have you taken your dog to the vet to find out if it has a problem?

Try setting out the dry dog food if the dog does not eat pick the food up and the next day put the food down again. Keep doing this for a week and see what happens.
I have list a couple Web Sites for you.

Oh BTW if your dog is small buy small dog food. I would also buy small bags and change up to see what the dog wants to eat. They have different smells. Or maybe try pouring a small amount of chicken broth onto the food.
Good luck.

I would start with a can of dog food and mix it with the dry food. Mostly can. Then every other day, start slimming up on the can and adding more of the dry, keeping it mixed up..Eventually you will have it eating almost all the dry food, until he gets weaned off of it. But you do have to find a dry food that it likes. And since he has gotten used to eating canned mush, you may want to go with a chewy moist dry food. My dog is large breed and he likes the kibbles, and smaller bits. He is older and I think it is easier on his teeth. Because he will let the big chunky stuff sit in his dish. But I still reward him about twice a week with a can of food, which he looks forward to!
That canned stuff is not good for them all the time anyway, Good Luck

I have a pure bred dog and a mutt. They both refuse dry dog food. You want to know why? It is because I let them eat people food. If I don't cook I can sometimes sneak in canned food.

Most people will tell you, leave it long enough and they will eat it. Leave it three days if you have to......I won't do that. I created it so I will handle it. Honestly, I don't blame them. I wouldn't eat any of that junk.

SEE? Wasn't I right about what others would say? Ten minutes is not long enough for a dog to eat unless you want him to act like a vulture that has gone without food for a week. I guess I treat my animals like humans because they are like humans to me. Oh well, each to their own.

Do you feed yours table food too? Or is he just on a hunger strike for some reason?

My parents had some success with putting their dogs on Nutro brand - their 13 year old (or thereabouts) English setter started to eat it, and to the best of my knowledge, she's never liked dry food.
Have you tried sprinkling some parmasean cheese on the dry food? When done with a high quality dry food like Nutro, this might work. You could also try gravies, but they tend to be pretty high fat.
You may also want to mix some rice in with it. Each day, add less rice and more dry dog food.
Good luck!

Try some more palatable brands. But seriously, if your dog won't eat ANY dry food, first take him to a vet to rule out any medical cause, and if nothing is wrong, just supply him with dry food and give him NOTHING else. He won't starve himself because he is picky. He may have been spoiled on human food or canned food by you previously or maybe another owner.

He must have become acusstomed to something else you've been giving him. mix the accustomed food with the dry food. As you keep feeding him start giving hom less and less of the accustomed food untill it's just plain dry food.

Your problem is very unlikely though because dogs don't have many taste sensors.

Put the food out and put it away after ten minutes. No other table food or treats. Keep doing this once a day. Eventually he will eat.
