Ignorant, I couldn't have picked a better word, because all you need to do is look a little farther in history than yesterdays news to see how ignorant your question is...

407,300 - that is the number of our military that were killed in 4 years in WWII. 54,236 - that is the number killed in four years in the Korean War. 53,239 - that is the number killed in action in Vietnam. 2,976 - that is the number of people who died in ONE DAY on 9/11. 17 - that is the number of casualties it took for President Clinton to pull our troops out of Mogadishu when faced with the same enemy tactics, weapons, and propaganda - ENSURING we would be fighting the same battle again with the same type of people using the same tactics at a different time and place. And ZERO - that is the number of terrorist attacks there have occured inside our borders since we took the fight into the enemies territory.
It is funny to me that there are people like you who use such harsh language about how our military is doing in this war - when you have never been in a war, and you have obviously never even served in the military. I have an idea - the military could use someone as brave as you, who sits behind a computer screen anonymously and criticizes. You could obviously do so much better than we - why don't you put down the keyboard and come out and join us?

None of you have ever been to Iraq, and that fact is made all the more obvious by your ranting and raving. The war is actually going very well for us over there, and extremely bad for the insurgents. Care to guess why? Here ya go: The people of iraq are tired of foreign fighters like the now-defunct Zarqawi coming to their land and killing civilians. They're ratting these people out as fast as they can to get them out of their neighborhoods and towns. They're seeing real improvements in infrastructure and quality of life, and dont want a bunch of extremists screwing it all up again. How do I know this, you ask? I WAS THERE. I saw it in my dealings with the people there. All the while, I watched CNN World telling us how terrible it was for us over there, and how we were going to lose. What drivel...

So I guess I'm just ignorant, having been there and done that, so to speak, versus the "enlightenment" of parroting college-campus liberal agitprop.

You people who are naysaying this war: if you've never been to Iraq, you have nothing worthwhile to say on the subject, and I suggest you find topics more in line with your knowledge-base; try "So You Think You Can Dance" or the "Real World", to be on the safe side...

The US can't win in Iraq but it can't lose either.

It can't win, because part of the goal is to wipe out all the insurgents and all the terrorists, and that's never going to happen. So, that part of the war will never be finished.

It can't lose, because at any point the US can withdraw troops, point to the gains that have been made, and declare victory. The US is unilaterally setting the agenda for what it's trying to accomplish, so it can't lose because it can always redefine the finish line.

Ignorant enough to listen to people with proven track records at predicting the outcomes of these sort of events?

Ignorant enough to have spent a year working in a Brigade HQ in Iraq - and thus got a really good idea of how the media is spinning things to look like we are losing?

Ignorant enough to notice that you need to listen to some real military analysis?

All I can say is Thank you grenadier8408, and Christopher B. I agree 100% with your perspectives. I am a military wife and my husband is "over there". He is just shy of being in Iraq 12 months. I am so tired of everyone who has not been in Iraq thinking they know what is going on because of a news story on CNN, World News Tonight, their local news, or the like. You don't know unless you are there or have been there.

it is not extremely a query, yet i'll respond to it besides. Many individuals oppose the conflict, and many help it. And no. i do not help squaddies en masse refusing to wrestle. that's extremely basic extremely. squaddies kill people. it is what soldier are for. in some circumstances, the warriors themselves get killed contained in the technique. that's previous me how such diverse people can connect the military and not in any respect comprehend those 2 basic data. you are able to't have militia workers figuring out which wars to wrestle (and that includes generals), any more effective than you may have civilians figuring out which regulations to obey. militia workers ought to obey the lawful orders of their more advantageous officials. Ordering someone to Iraq is a lawful order. I extremely have 0 sympathy for all of us who disobeys.

Certainly it's not going well by all reasonable and ostensible measures.

But what if we are using the wrong measuring device?

Could just be that Iraq was the "beachhead" for us to have massive amounts of troops ready for the day when the second stage commenced.

I wonder if the second stage is unfolding as we speak.

Obviously you ahven't seen the improvements, andheard the people talking about how much better life is there......Is it great? No, and may not be for a very long time....but most feel safer, have more, and are happy that we are there. So, yes you do have to be ignorant....to think that we are failing.....
