This has already been stated by Jesus and the refusal was there then and it is definitely there now.

No. He told that to a Jewish leader, a Pharisee, who came to Him secretly (because he didn't want anyone else to know He was seeking out The Messiah). The Jewish man told Jesus he had kept all the Jewish laws and thought that this would make him righteous.

Jesus told this man, named Nicodemus, that in order to Enter the Kingdom of Heaven he needed to do two things:

1) Sell all that he had and give to the poor
2) Be "born again" meaning to become a new creature. This only happens by believing in Christ

The reason Jesus told Nicodemus specifically to sell all he had and give to the poor is because it is the one thing the rich, young Jewish man would find it hardest to do. Jesus was basically saying that the young man would have to give up everything he held most valuable in order to follow after the Messiah and truly enter the "Kingdom of Heaven".

I am sure there are those who would and those who wouldn't. Personally, I don't own much and my family struggles some months to get by. Yet there are days when I stand behind someone in walmart and wish for a way to secretly buy what is in the cart for them. Sometimes I am ashamed that I as a Christian do not strive more to help those in need. But isn't it wonderful that Salvation is FREE to anyone who will ask God to give it to them.

It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter heaven.' Jesus Christ.

he really did. it's in the bible. he said it; and then later on, after his death, the church had all things in common. that was the real church of jesus. it doesn't exist anymore except for a very small number of indivuals who are not organized. who just do what they think is right.
