Everyone says bizarre and irrational things sometimes, religion has nothing to do with it.

I completely agree that reasoned debate could be plenty extra interesting and efficient than slanging fits. besides the undeniable fact that, maximum Christians look to have confidence that they have an legal duty to transform others and this has a tendency to make those others somewhat annoyed. As they experience (understandably) indignant via Christians' fact of their 'rightness' and all and sundry else's wrongness, they often are offensive in return. via the way, this is 'atheist' and not 'athiest' - theist is somebody who have confidence in a god, yet i do no longer think of there is unquestionably one of those situation as a thiest or an athiest.

Yes, but I particularly hate when they start quoting 'a fool says in his heart blah blah blah' or 'don't cast pearls before swine'. Do they even realize they just called me a fool/pig when they say that kind of arrogant psychotic crap?

Even better is when, after they find out I don't believe in the Bible they start quoting the Bible. Or when they discover I don't believe in hell, they start threatening me with hell.

But the best has to be the 'ol standby "I'll pray for you".

Some (i.e. a LOT) of these people have no sense whatsoever.

Not much else, if anything! My oldest sister is a good example. I cannot have a calm and reasonaable discussion with her on her beliefs. I took Bible and Philosophy in college, so my opinions are informed. Hers are ignorant and stubborn. She insults me if I say much about things I learned in college. Emotion rules her, but Logic rules me. She has some big hospital bills and laments about being unable to buy various things. I suggest that she should quit giving $50 a month to her church, but she won't hear of it. Is that irrational enough for you? It's too much for me!

Seriously, if you think Christians say bizarre things, you should see what some of my fellow atheists say. Then again, if you think atheists say bizarre things, you should see what some Christians say.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Both sides have their idiots.

The real sad thing is when in the middle of the craziness they say something beautiful or profound and you wish they could just stick to that.
Like if you could have the prayer of St. Francis without having to believe in stigmata.

Yes. One example is they actually say the bible is true. They feel the parts and the parts that contradict them are true. It is too insane to mention, but religion is insane.
