Religion IS infact the cause of MOST of the the conflict in the world today, and in history.
While the USSR may have taken over some of Europe, the people of this country during the time of the cold war were scared because the fundamentalist government of this country told the United States to fear the godless communists. Thus the cold war happened.
What about all the fighting going on now? Fundamentalists on BOTH sides of the fence are flexing their muscles for their respective gods.
Crusades? I think you know the answer to this.
How about Adolf Hitler? You should know the answer to this as well.
Oh and George Bush....mmmmm if you don't know this I am sorry that your not living in reality.

I think the cause of most conflict in the world is greed and/or lust for power. Lots of times it hides behind a religious mask, but it is still the greed and not the god that spurs the person to kill.
And no, God does not like killing in His name. Those "leaders" are merely hired shepherds. The minute there is any serious danger, they're gonna split like rotten wood.
Better to follow the True Leader, the Chief Shepherd. He will NEVER leave you or forsake you.....

It is the cause of all conflict in the world becuase it is unnatural; religion may have origianlly been used as a way for people to understand God and Jesus in thier own tongue, but now we have five main interpretations of the "truth". Religion is nothing but a big, manipulative hand sweeping away love and reason across the earth, leaving nothing but destruction in its path. Leaders use it as a selfish, manipulative tool.

i know that many conflicts have been started in the name of religion... i don't know how relevant that would be to current conflicts, though. I think its mostly a big fight over wealth and power in the east now (hezbolla wants power, Isreal doesn't like that, GB wants oil to get power, the Taliban wants control...etc) Throughout history, though, holy wars were common, and plenty of people were beheaded for what they believed in. If the king/queen was, say, Catholic and you weren't, you converted or died. I guess it may have been considered honourable to fight for the god you believed in, but as far as I'm concerned, there is only one God, and He does not want innocent people being slaughtered in His name. I am not sure how other 'gods' feel about this issue, though!

The cause of all conflict in the world? No. Certainly not. Humanity has a great talent for finding bad reasons to shed blood: jealousy, greed, lust for power, base mistrust and pettiness, etc. But religion has caused its share of sorrow and then some, primarily because it encourages ignorance and enmity, which never build as much as they tear down.

The problem is deeper than religion. The problem is that all religions insist that followers accept unsubstantiated supernatural claims as true. This habit of mind creates believers that shun answers derived via reason, not faith. Reasoning is much more difficult than believing. The acceptance of claims without evidence carries over into everything. You basically have people infected with faulty thought processes and that leads to all kinds of mischief from demagogues and tyrants.

Tes i believe that religion has had it's part in wars, not just global wars but also holy wars when christains killed christians in the name of God. Ireland today is a perfect example how when we are to love one another but we'll place a bomb under your car because your catholic or protestant! Look at the middle east. Yes one religion will damn another, It's hard to find a church that only teaches what the bible says and live by it.

Yes, look at Palestein and Isreal. They both want the same land because it's "holy." Also, look at the Crusades. Then World War II was the intolerance of different religions. Most conflict is due to religion. I agree.
