The best start is to fear Him.
I behave good as much as possible, because its good for me. I follow the "law of God" because it comes with a punishment and reward , but aside from that .....
it is a guidelines for human to have a peaceful, meaningful and quality life.
Do you imagine if all human being follow the "law" ? Isn't it the world is much better today, only if we follow the guidelines.
Since not all human being will not adhere to that guidelines, Christians all commanded to stick to the "law" not matter what happen, and that is why they labelled it "suffering". When suffer and still stick to the law, that is how we can show we love Him.
Its very hard and difficult to follow the guidelines, cause it equates denying ones ego and logic thinking, but the fruit is better for us and better for our loves ones and better for the world. And God loves that!

I behave because it makes my life easier, when I misbehave, it seems like everything just gets worse. Karma maybe? I love God because He loves me. Because all good things come from Him, and because of the intense love of beauty He has given me...

I believe that every human being should love God for the benifits that he has given us. Even if you don't believe that he has given you anything. Believe me he has... I don't Fear him I am aware of what he is capable of doing which if you do not know him as your personal savior then you should probably fear him.

If God loves me more than my own parents love me then I have nothing to fear.
But if God can change like man can change than I'm in trouble.
And I would be doing everything to try to stay on His good side.
I have found through experience that He loves me no matter what my behavior is: so it makes me want to please Him through my actions.

I don't need a deity to tell me to behave, I do it because it's the correct thing to do.
