The Basenji is a hypoallergenic hunting dog, a hound-type. Poodles and Irish Water Spaniels are some other hypoallergenic dogs. Here is a list from Wiki, and an article from another website:

There are several breeds of dog referred to as "hypoallergenic," meaning that they provoke fewer reactions in allergy sufferers. Hypo means less, not none. There is no such thing as a "non-allergenic" dog.

There is really no such thing as a hypo-allergenic dog.
Standard Poodles do not shed (they have hair - not fur) and they don't produce dander the same as dogs with fur. Many people who are allergic to dogs can tolerate a poodle.
Standard Poodles were originally bred as hunting dogs. They swim well and retrieve well. Some are very good at pointing and flushing game. Maybe your uncle would be interested in a Standard Poodle.

Over 50% of Labradoodles shed.

Try a Portuguese Water Dog. They look exactly like a Lab when shaved. They are great pets and do hunt. Or, at least mine does.

Yep, poodles. Poodles were originally bred for hunting, that's where those funky haircuts came from, with all the little pom-poms. They were actually shaved that way to protect their joints. There are also labradoodles (lab poodle mix). While those weren't bred for hunting, since both labs and poodles are hunting dogs, why not? However, labradoodles can be EXTREMEMLY hyper.

Labradoodles aren't non-shedding, but they are supposed to be hypoallergenic, although I'm not sure. I don't really know how you could guarantee that they got poodle hair instead of lab hair.

Though it's been said a few times already, Standard Poodle would be a good choice. Maybe a Labradoodle (lab crossed with poodle) if they are also non-shedding (I'm not sure).

Believe it or not, full sized Poodles were bred as hunting dogs for the French royal court. I don't think poodles have the dander that other dogs do.

I have allergies to most dogs but poodles are different. They don't have the same dandruff problems. They also like to hunt. No matter their size that is their most favorite thing to do.
