But yet when it comes to our own we never seem to have the answer. Or when we find ourselves in the same boat we never can follow our own advice? why is this?

Its easier to help others because of a number of reasons, like:

1. Empathy kicks in and we work with the other persons feelings.
2. We have a distance between us and the problem which brings clarity.
3. When you help another you project your advice either verbally, writing/typed or body language and when you advise yourself its an internal voice.
4. We are just dumb.

It has always been thus. We are usually too close to the problem, and cant see the tree for the forest.
It is easier handing out advice, seeing we aren't the ones, who have to do it.
Sure is we see some girl, moping over a rotten boyfriend, we say dump him.
Two words, easy to type, but when emotions are involved, not so easy to do.
Women in particular, usually invest much more emotions, in there relationship, than men do.
They see the house with the white picket fence, and the kids and family gatherings etc. We guys see the moment, a cute girl, that we might be able to get into bed with.
So until, we have better control over our emotions, it will be harder to work with our heart, than with our brain.
We all know what must or should be done to solve a problem, but we ask others, hoping against hope that there is an easier way to solve it.
Mind over heart, mind usually loses.

excellent point; but I think that it's not so much about having the answers. I think 99% of the people who ask questions on here know what the right thing is to do, but it helps them to do so if they hear it from someone else. Just to be completely sure, if you know what I mean. Also, it's much easier to be impartial when it's not about your own life, and it's about someone you don't know.

I do not know about you but most of the questions i answer from past experiences. That is my reason for participating in this blog, so that I can share my experiences with some young and troubled persons. It also helps to relax me after my radio shows.

Easier to give advice than to take it. You're usually the neutral party so you're on the outside looking in.

because we can look at other peoples problems without our own selfish goals and objectives, its easy to give advice when we dont have to live with the consiquences. Love ya!

it's so very true!

but also a good lesson. Next time you have a problem, put it in that perspective. Ask yourself what you'd tell someone else in your shoes. It's always harder when there's emotions involved though. And there always are!

because we all are blinded to think what we do is correct ...to some sense everyone else has a diffrent mind set ! we see the problem one way and the next person another and so on and so on
