My understanding is the ring is based on a design by Joseph Smith with the circle representing eternity since it has no beginning or end. They are used as wedding rings to focus on the eternal commitment of love.

I have never heard of a Jooseph Smith Eternity Ring- You will need to elaborate.

For those who are wondering- Joseph smith lived in the 1800's. He restored the ancient church of Jesus Christ in 1833. That church is now known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - aka the Mormons. Joseph is the first Modern day prophet of the church.
