The same reason ours are, I think. We have enzymes in our saliva that helps digest our food. Also, if the dog's water dish is slimey, it can be bacteria in the dish. That's why you should scrub it out with soapy water every day.

mines is too, but its more sticly than anything, but im not sure my mom told me that its because of the heat and the pant and it makes their saliva sticky so it doesnt dry out and thats how they die of heat strokes. their spit and panty keeps their body heat down

I Do brush my dogs teeth. The slime has nothing to do with that!!!! Even with clean teeth, there is a LOT of drool, especially in the summer!!!

They don't brush their teeth like we do, so the food particles, proteins and bacteria in their mouths must make it all sticky.
