I disagree, but not because I'm some bible hugging born-again fundamentalist who uses the bible's quotes for my own self-serving ego desires.
I disagree because:
1. the bible contains a lot of historical information (such as the "Book of Numbers")
2. the bible contains the written accounts of the teachings of Jesus--someone who whether he was the son of God or not knew that love is the answer to peace on earth. That doesn't sound so "whackey" to me (especially at these times).
3. the bible offers insight (not empirical evidence) into the existence of God, the possibility of miracles, and the hope that somehow through all the existential madness of the world good will somehow win in the end (even if many of us STILL don't understand what the "good" is).
However, I would agree that the bible can be misused, misinterpreted, and become the source of what it was not intended for, which was spiritual insight.

Yep, that'll teach those dumb Christians. Slam them on their Bible. I mean it was written like thousands of years ago with a bunch of translations and by like 50 different authors. I mean it is just a dumb book right? So what if it comments on every element of human nature which is true today just like it was yesterday. And so what if there is a remarkable harmony with all the writers of the bible despite the fact that they wrote over many different centuries. Who cares it has practical relevant advice on every area of life from business to marriage to healthy living. And its irrelevent that the Bible contains many prophecies which have come true and are unfolding at this very moment. I mean other books have done the same thing...haven't they?
It might be "fairy tales" to you, Sweetie...but I'll take that happy ending over nothing any day. Pascal bet on the right God!!

I agree, because that's all they had.
It took until the 1600s for humans to figure out that the earth was not the centre of the universe, in bible times they had ZERO understanding of how the universe worked, so they made up fairy tales about 600 year old people, boats with every animal on it, and man/god dudes that could turn water into wine.

Nope, I can't.
What does God call it? Preach love too them? Lets see what God says, to do with them.
You have unbeliever's. Chaff, Scoffers.
An Atheist is a scoffer. The WORD of God, clearly tells you the filhty rags they are, and to stay away from them, and avoid them. We are NOT to plant seeds. God knows it is useless and that is why he tells us, "You stand firm against them" ( Jer.17:8 14:1 Iah 44:4) You disassociate them completely. Any Believer that does not abide in God's own Word, does not know God, according too God Himself. Atheists are "chaff" A simile of the wretchedness of the wicked. Chaff is carried away by the lightest wind, and it's removal brings about cleansing by extracting what is utterly useless. (Ruth 1:22). They will NOT stand in the judgment. They will NOT be able to withstand God's wrath when He judges.( Paslams 76:7 Exra 9:15). This is not my opinion, this is God's very own Words, in the Bible. You know, the BIble? The same Bible atheist scholars quote. There is a reason God, said this. Psalms.1.1-3 Jer. 17:8 14:1 12. 1-2 18:9-10 Prov1.10-19 (vs 5) scoffers:(atheists) those who ridicule God and definatley reject His Law. Prov 1.:22 Ruth 1:22 Jer 18:7 (pull down-destroy) 1:10 (evil-calamity) 18:11
Pslams 1:
godly wisdom here, declare the final outcome of the two "ways". The paths of "sinners" (unbelievers) and the "way of the righteous. he speaks progressively of assoociation with the ungodly and participation in they're ungodly ways.
God said it. End of Story. Jesus Himself said "Let the dead bury they're dead".
Use all the Internet and Dictionaries they want to and call themselves anything they wish. God "defined" what they are by His own words.
They can hang a dog tag* around they're neck in the pits if hell itself and separate each other by name categorically.
God's Word said it. By God's definition. There is NO opinion.
Hate? Where do you get hate? If God's TRUTH is hate too you, then, so be it. You and God, can and will discuss the means of your sciptural interpretation, consisting with a man-made defacto on a motion of plea bargin I guess. I dunno.

I have a question for you if all of those stories are soo made up then why do they resemble each other soo much? There is no way in the world that by chance each of these religious entities just got together and made up one story and then changed it according to their religion. And hey if it is all a story I would rather spend my life worshiping God and there not be one then not worshiping one and being dead wrong.

there's the problem of the definition of mythology.
all myth is based on some truth or solid fact that was lost to history because before writeing, the stories were told orally, over hundreds or possibly thousands of years. over time facts were omitted and materials foreign to the original story were added, sometimes to make the story more palatable to the then current story listeners, sometimes to make the story more expediant to political purposes; and eventually the oral story teller themselves added their own flourishes(who would know?)
but the fact is that myth is based on fact of the distant past.
true myth always has a foundation in fact.

I agree it is a very clever and successful form of mind control. However, the bible stories are pretty drab and boring. There were alot more creative things coming out of the period.
p.s. cool glasses

No I don't agree.
People have good imaginations now but I don't see new scriptures like those you mentioned being written now. Do you?
Your idea doesn't hold water.

It makes for interesting reading. The problem is if you try to run your life according to some old folk tale. The worse problem is if you tell me I have to run my life that way, or try to teach my kids that those folk tales are scientific.
