Not a bad choice. The weather is NOT extreme; sure, there are floods, but they're minor and only affect you if you live near Peachtree Creek, Nancy Creek or, in rare cases, the Chattahoochee. The people (the actual locals, who are actually from there, like me!) are pretty nice. I moved away a decade ago, so I'm not up on the good neighborhoods so much any more, but Smyrna and Marietta seem pretty nice, and Homepark if you like the student life. I lived in Little Five Points, Toco Hills area, Midtown and Virginia Highlands when I lived there.

Enjoy yourself; Atlanta has a lot to offer.

I live close to Atlanta. It is a good city. It gets wild sometimes. I guess it depends on why you want to relocate there. There are positives and negatives. There is a good job market. They have a marta so you can travel without owning a car. BUt it is busy and crowded and more crime.

Atlanta is a large city. I'd recommend finding a job there before you move there, as you might get settled into a home, and then have a two hour commute to get to work.

Stay away from the exurbs(Paulding County, Forsyth County). It also depends of whay you are looking for. My opinion is that it is overrated. If you want cheap places to live, be prepared. Some placse that are cheap are full of racistsor they are violent neighborhoods. Places that are nicer tend to be expensive. Try Cobb County. There are many nice placse there. I would not recommend the rural parts though. Racism is rampant in some places.

Yes, Atlanta is a very modern city and you would feel comfortable there without sterotypical "southern" prejudices.
