My youth group is doing a skit about the Body of Christ. At the end of the skit one of the characters is suppose to hit the other (well pretend to anyways). Our youth leaders won't let us thou b/c the older generation won't like it. Is it wrong or does it matter? i don't think it matters

We aren't saying fighting is right we are actually saying the exact opposite. That we are all part of the body of Christ and that we all have our own part in it. And I still don;t see how it would cause another person to stumble. We are basically asking fighting within the church to end.

When they punched and crucified Jesus it was real . Many times people want to water down the way life really is . In my opinion, the more realistic the play will be the better it will touch needs in the congregation. I respect the old timers because they have lived for God and stayed true in their life but if we are going to reach this generation, we have to get down to where they live. The older people's faith should be mature enough that they will not get bent out of shape.

Hey Brickens,

i'm actually a youth pastor and have been working with jr. high through college for 11 plus years. First of all i'd say that i understand that it probably isn't that big of a deal and i know in some of our church skits the adults get a kick out of some of our jokes, etc.

Paul tells us that if something makes our brother stumble even if we have the liberty to do it we ought not to for the sake of our brother. In this case i think it can make some of your youth leaders stumble and possibly your parents, etc. i know that when i first started youth pastoring i had an earring (the reason i got it was in the OT servants pierced their ear to show their allegiance to the master). This was not comfortable for some of the adults and i could understand cuz kids could of have said well my youth pastor has an earring why can't i (even if it meant two different things). So i gladly gave up the earring because my brothers and sisters are more important than my liberty.

It is also very Christ-like to consider others before yourself. So in those ways even though it's not a big deal to have someone get hit in the skit (and understand i don't know the full context of it) it is a mature thing to think about others.

Hope that helps... keep growing young fella!

Well, if it offends the older Christians in the church, it is wrong to go through with it. Why? Check out Romans 14. Paul pretty much says, if you do something that would cause another Christian to screw up in their faith/actions/etc, even if you are in the right, don't do it. Is there anything wrong with the skit, no. But does it help the people in your church to do it, and have them all upset over nothing, no.

You know how the story goes! Sometimes you have to ignore the older generation (Even though they do deserve respect.)

At my church we used to put ashes on or head for ash Wednesday. The older Women put an end to that do to there make-up getting smeared!

It propagates violence which is unacceptable. Your youth leaders are correct.

They need to learn to live with it. That's stupid, it doesn't matter and if they think like that you should quit!
