If you are just out for a one-nighter, then sure, buy the woman a drink. Not a good place to shop that way, though. Drinks are expensive. If you are looking for a relationship, a bar is hardly the place to make rational decisions as well.
If you are relationship oriented, then have a friendly chat, do not offer to purchase a drink. If she seems to be interesting, you could invite her out to meet at another time, for coffee or tea, or some other neutral territory place. Then, neither of you will have alcohol clouding your perceptions and can discover whether you both have real chemistry and shared interests. This is the drink you should offer to purchase for her.

No chance unless you put your hand in your pocket and buy me a drink pal!! How can you be overly keen! Your keen you make a move, your not keen you dont!!
Any other tactic is game playing and a complete turn off to proper grown up womern!

eh i don't get the question dude why would it ruin ya chances?? its not often us guys are polite enough to ask a lady if she would like a drink most young guys these days first question to a girl is when we gonna get our kit off and get in bed what happened to a bit of romance and courtship and buying a nice girl a drink is a good way of introducing yourself so long as you are polite and as the lady below says don't expect anything but you may get to meet the girl again if your conversation was good enough
and these people who pull people up on their grammatical prowess are getting really annoying

I was once asked if I would get my kit off for the boss. It would have been nice if he had offered to buy me a drink first. Must admit the result would have been the same. not a chance but I would not have thought he was such a letch just a chancer.

I was always taught that if I was out with friends we share. But if you are a Gentleman and invite a lady out you pay and certainly in my company on a night out the lady keeps her hand on her purse the other holds her dress down. Be a Gent and treat your lady. She'll respect you for it.

I wouldn't mind you buying me a drink so long as you didn't go over the top or act really weird

Don't ever buy a girl a drink, unless your doing rounds. Even if the girl ask for a drink say "why should i pay for your time, are you a prostitute?".
