It takes me anywhere from a half hour to almost three hours to fall asleep every night. Everytime i close my eyes, that's when all the thoughts rush in. i think about the day, plans for the next day, things i should do, worries I have...EVERYTHING! I've tried anything i could think of, from the endless counting, to taking sleeping pills, but counting doesn't work and pills always make me extremely drowsy the next day. Any suggestions?

Activity!
Do a vigorous workout every evening.
Go for a run, by yourself!
That way you are physically tired and energized.
If you go alone, it's also a great way to spend time by yourself in order to think then.
So, you are taking care of multiple physical/mental attributes.
If you still get in bed, try meditation. There are tons of books on it. Clearing your mind and thought.
Sometimes I focus on "my toes are asleep, I am asleep, my heels are asleep, i am asleep.....Start at the bottom and work your way up.
If you are listing every part you can think of and actually concentrating, you'll never make it to the top.

i have a similar problem and have done for a few years, i went to the doctor about it and she prescribed tamazapan, which didn't work, it made me drowsy, but i still couldn't fall asleep. Also they are quite powerful and you can get addicted to them. I'm not sure that there is anything that can be done for people like us. i would love to have a proper nights sleep, but i have yet to find something that works. alcohol is definately not the answer, it may make you fall asleep but you won't sleep well, Good luck and if you find something that helps e-mail me to let me know.

Write everything down, no matter how trivial, this will help take it off your mind, look at what you have written the next morning and start to deal with the list one by one, repeat each night, if you have one recurring item or something you never seem to get done or solve, break that one thing down into smaller steps until it is resolved..
Good luck...

i go through the same thing, so i just stay awake and sleep when my body can't stay awake anymore.
but one remedy that may work is to eat a couple of lettuce leaves an hour or so before you want to be asleeep. it has been said that this can help you to go to sleep faster.
also avoid eating anything or drinking tea, coffee, or fizzy drinks within three hours of when you want to be asleep. you should then with a little luck drift off happily.
good luck. and i hope that helps.

A really warm bath works well for me. I also took Sonata for a while and wasn't tired the next day. Reading also helps me relax. You need to work on relaxing before you go to bed and not worry so much.

I don't really know because I do the same thing I tryed everything but doesn't work. I even tryed to take a nice bubble bath with soft music o but it only helps for my stress. But when I go to my bed trying really hard to sleep it doesn't work so I tryed to put soft music on and it kind of helps for me. So yah that's what I have to say.

Wind down before you go to sleep. Have a bath, drink some cocoa and curl up in bed with a book and completely forget about your day. Sometimes handy to keep a pen and paper next to your bed to write down things you are worried about forgetting.

I cant sleep at night either, unless I have a few beers and then it's sleepy time for me. Don't drink to much cause then you will be hangin the next day.

Yeah same happens to me. I think you need to wind down before you go to sleep, don't do anything that makes you think or anything like that, maybe read or listen to relaxing music and maybe stop drinking anything that has caffeine in it late in the day.
