i have a painful lymph node behind left ear, swollen, tender. Dr prescribed antibiotics then said if it doesn't clear up, he'll do a cat scan of the neck area. why? Anyone else had this? no sore throat, no earaches, no obvious infection.

Painful Lymph Node Behind Ear

Its possible that you could have lymphadenitis which basically is an inflammation of the lymph nodes, the doctor probably put you on antibiotics because with the sweeling being so close to other glands that if they become infected you could get an infection that could go to your brain. Try putting warm compresses on the swollen node and see if that helps with the tenderness.

The odds are that it's just blocked, due to an infection or whatever. Lymph nodes tend to get blocked up on occasion. Don't worry, it should be okay.
Good luck.
