Excellent question. I think it's easier to take a stance and a few anecdotes than it is to research both sides of the story.
Many people only know what they've been told by people they trust and unfortunately many of them are "caught" at a bad time in their lives.
This is the only way that I can justify how people become neo-Nazis. A little research and travel would set them straight, IMHO.

Because change is occuring at an accelerating rate in America, more than any where in the world. Look at Iran. The Shah brought them kicking and screaming into the modern world. And for his efforts, he was ousted, and the people went straight back to the bronze age. Change is occuring there now, at a slower rate.
It takes nearly all of our intellectual ability, just to keep up with the days new technology. At some point, tools become toys, and information becomes entertainment.

Ignorance to some is bliss. The ignorance in America is due to arrogance that they are the best humans living in the world with no knowledge about other cultures, religions their politics and even ignorance of American biased foreign policies.
It is always easy to make a point to well informed American rather than arguing with an ignorant American.

Short answer: Because information may lead to but does not equal knowledge. I had a student tell me "I don't need to know anything, because if I need to I can just look it up."
So much for our advanced brains.
Alternate answer: I ask this question every day of my life, and I don't think that I am any closer to the answer today then when I first asked it.
Long answer: You don't even wanna get me started ...

There's obviously a lot of biased information and even
misinformation and also the simple fact that someone might read or see something and then just interpret it to fit their needs and beliefs which is just ...well... ignorant!

It's our right living in a free country to say anything we want with no evidence and justify it by saying "the experts are wrong", "it's always been that way", or "the big book says so".

It is easier to argue what you think you know than it is to pick up a book and learn something. It is also easier to listen to the religion that is forced upon us than it is to explore other options.
