Here we go. This is what christian is all about . this verse is from THE HOLKY BIBLE. Teaches slavery and sexual abuse:

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

Before you ask this question, perhaps you might attend ANY Christian church and let me know which one is promoting slavery and sexual abuse. You reference a scripture from a time period hundreds of years before Christianity and say that Christians are now (present tense) teaching this concept.

Get your facts straight.

this was written how many THOUSAND years ago? Do you really think that the word slave means exactly the same thing then as it meant now?
this is a really interesting article that i suggest you read in it's entirety, but here is a little snippet to give you an idea:

Part of the problem is that we have false ideas about what slavery was really like. The life of a slave was not easy, but we get an exaggerated idea of the hardships of slavery from watching movies or reading historical material that is written on a popular level. Here the purpose is usually to dramatize the plight of slaves or to make some point about the evils of slavery in general, (1) but the historical reality was less dramatic. In most cases the life of a slave was not much different from the life of any lower-class worker. Those who have been in the military have experienced something like it — being legally bound to an employer and to a job that one cannot simply "quit" at will, not free to leave without permission, subject to discipline if one disobeys or is grossly negligent — all of this is familiar enough to those of us who have served in the military. And yet we know that the daily life of a good soldier is not especially hard. This is what it was like to be a slave.

It is a very interesting read.
God bless

Edit:
there is nothing about sexual abuse in that verse, by the way... marriages were not the same then as they are now, either. stop assuming that things were always as they are today. it was a different time and they were a different culture.

I follow the Roman Catholic religion, because the Bible tells me that the Catholic Church is the one founded by Christ Himself (Matthew 16).

As for what function it serves -- plenty! The Catholic Church is, by far, the single largest nongovernmental charitable organization on the planet. It has been for centuries.

You speak of individuals or society in general being happy -- well, happiness is a good thing and it's nice if the Church can bring it about.

But at the end of the day, the ultimate goal of the Church is not to make people happy -- it's to help people get to Heaven, which is what TRUE happiness is all about.

Baseball teams are not happy until they win the World Series. Football teams are not happy until they win the Super Bowl.

Likewise, we don't know true happiness -- even though we think we do -- while on this earth. Once we are allowed through those gates and into God's Kingdom, only then will true happiness be ours.

Christ established His Church on earth to help us bring that about. Even with all its wonderful charitable work, no greater purpose can exist for a Church than the ultimate work of charity -- helping people get to Heaven.

Umm. You don't want to start this game. I can tell by your other questions you are a Muslim, and some of the things your prophet said are HIGHLY questionable. I mean, at first he didn't support polygamy, but then when his wife couldn't give him any more children, suddenly God changed his mind and told your prophet he should marry an adolescent?

Are you going to try to kill me now because I "insulted" your prophet who, apparently, is the same as a god to you?

I that day and age women were chattel. It looks to me like this was directed by God for their protection. But see, it's all in how you perceive God in the first place.

He is my Lord and savior. Whatever He did then, does now, or will do in the future is fine as frog hair, by me.

That didn't say anything about sexual abuse, nor did it promote slavery. It says "when a man...", not "a man should..."
