horrible reputation they are only in the public eye for killing or biting a child, they are cute in there own way

Most people don't take the time of day to actually research the breed before they judge it and call it vicious. What people don't understand is that its not the BREED its the DOG. Not all people from the middle east are terriorist, not all pit bulls are mean. Its how they are rasied,enviroment they are raised in and if the owner is satisfing the dogs needs as far as pack leader, exercise ext. For most people its easier to point a finger than to find out the truth. Most of the time the media only tells stories about pits biting people because that is more interesting than a chichuahua biting someone. The media is in it for the money and ratings.

Pit bulls were bred for a sport called "bull baiting", in which a pitt bull and a real bull fought, till one animal died. Pit bulls got their name from this. The breed was intentioned to be aggressive and viscious, that was the point.
Any dog can be viscious, depending on how it's raised, but pit bulls tend to be more aggressive due to the fact that they only bred the most viscious examples of the breed.
If you go to a dog breeder, any dog breeder, they'll tell you that an integral part of their breeding program, is to select dogs based not only on their physical characteristics, but also on their temperment. Temperment is a somewhat inheritable trait. If the female is viscious, she'll most likely pass that on to her litter.
So why don't people like pit bulls? Because of the dog's origins, its reputation, and what the breed was bred for.

They are cute! But too many have been abused and made vicious by irresponsible owners. They are powerful and can kill. About 30 years ago, there was a similar problem with Dobermans. Breeders got together and helped solve that problem by responsible breeding. Maybe that will happen with Pit Bulls.

pit bulls have a bad rep. this isn't their fault at all. it's their owners fault all the way. people train these dogs to be vicious and to be killers because they know that these dogs can be (if you teach them). personally, I think their sweet, loving, giant dogs if they are owned by a good decent person who takes care of them. I'd luvvvv to own one someday. our society should take their bad rep out on the owners not the poor dog. also, these people who own them are awful heartless human beings because they place these as "fighting dogs". pit bulls are unfortunatly bred by people who use them to fight other pit bulls to the death!!!!! this is for the individuals own personal enjoyment, watch these poor innocent creatures suffer in fights for no damn reason. this is yet another reason why people classify them as "dangerous" dogs. I believe that if these types of dogs are given to a great and loving caring person from the very beginning of their lives then they are absolutly the same as any other breed of dog!!

They really are not that cute. It is just that simple!!! And I do not think a dog with a prey drive that high is "cute". They are just dangerous in the wrong hands!!!!!

i like them, but about 3 years ago i was attacked by one, and the dogs jaw locked, so i had a hell of a time trying to get it off me, but other than that, there alright.... not my top choice of dog, though.

some people think pittbulls are very mean and dangerous. if you bringthem up to be nice they won't be mean. it's simple.
