I've been living in china for a year, and i have my ipod from Canada. It charges fine with the wall charger it came with. Also most laptops have a universal currency thing in the adapter. Still check your manuals or something though.

If your laptop and ipod are dual voltage, 120v-240v 50-60Mhz, then you don't need to buy adapters. In China, there are two standards in electric outlet. One of them is a 2-prong plug, which should work for your laptop. If the charger of your ipod is a 3-prong plug, then it won't work there. If it's a 2-prong, make sure it's not one prong is wider than the other. If the 2 prongs are identical, then it'll work there.
Here's a couple of pictures on how the outlets look like.

Voltage in China is 220V 50MHz, you need to buy a power adapter/regulator from wal-mart or somewhere, they are as cheap as $10. electricity in the USA is 110V 60MHz.
Beware the clocks, if your clock isnt set for multiple voltage, it may run fast. Clocks run off of the "cycles" which is the MHz ... so running a clock set for 60 cycles on power that generates 50 cycles is going to play havoc with your time display :)

actually laptop has adaptor in the plug alreay i think. like mine i can charge it or take it to anywhere.
ipod also if you can charge your laptop, you can plug your ipod to the laptop too.
i have adaptor for ipod and i used to charge it when I stayed in USA. but right now i'm in Thailand. it can work here.
So i think you can recharge both of laptop and ipod in China. For sure take adaptor or equipment to China too.

Somewhere in your instruction manual it should tell you if your things are dual voltage. If that's the case you can just by a converter. However if they aren't dual voltage then you will need a transformer, that will convert the voltage coming through to your charger, or you could blow out your electronics.

on the back of any electrial plug, it tells you what votage it accepts. if it says 100 - 220, you are fine. If not, you need to buy a transformer/converter. Walmart has them.

voltage converters are quite common. it converts the european and asian 220volts 50 hz. to 110volts 50 hz. no problem with that. you can get them at any electronics store or even at an airport.
