I want to send my husband care packages often while he is deployed - but want them to be fun for him...not the same old boring things: deodorant, sports magazines, powdered drink mixes, etc. Have you been deployed? What were some of the best items you received?

We have someone there. A lap top computer keeps you in touch. A web cam and speaker keeps you seeing each other. Music, the latest movies, things that keep ties with home. Even a batch of homemade cookies will work.

Send him a sexy bit of lingere and tell him when he gets home you'll model it for him. Trust me, he'll be very eager to get home. And don't worry about the guys giving him grief about it. Unless your husband is extremely shy, he'll probably get a kick out of the teasing and winks. It's always fun to be the guy with a hot wife. LOL. Pictures are good- a few to show off and a few to hide from the guys. Send a picture of your pet, your house, maybe his car/truck. Maybe of his golfclubs with a little sign hanging from them "we miss you!". You can have a lot of fun with photography.
Best thing I've gotten while deployed? My goldfish (with my mom's assistance) wrote me letters telling me about the happenings "Outside the Bowl". It was a hilarous look at the things that would otherwise have just been daily dribble.
"The lady was down on the bottom today, waving her fins around a lot and it made the bottom all shiny. What was she doing? It took her a really long time and she got all mad when the man swam in when she was done. He has something big in his fins, all wrapped up. He flipped me into a tiny, dark bowl. I was scared! I tried to jump out but I hit my head on something and decided that maybe it was better to just wait. When he flipped me back, my bubble was bigger! There was a great plant too and I found the perfect way to scratch my back. That's hard with fins, you know. Wait, have to go. Food!!! Oh boy oh boy oh boy..."
Everyone thought it was terribly cute that my fish wrote to me on fishy stationary, and the letters were really funny. It made it much easier to deal with being away from home to have the comic relief and the update at the same time.

My grandma sent me a copy of Plato's Republic, and several other philosophy books. It was a great idea, because I had something substantial to read on my downtime instead of just oogling skin in men's magazines.
Miniature motorized fans are also handy. Oh, and if he is on the road very often, tools. A lot of times you have to fix things on the go, and a good wrench or all purpose tool really comes in handy.

My son, completing his second tour over there, once asked me for a "wrist rocket" and soft shelled paint pellets so he could shoot back at the arab kids who pelted his convoy with rocks. So I went to "The Academy" sports store, bought both, and sent them. He later told me that his sargent wouldn't let him use them on the arab kids, so I think they used it amongst themselves, kinda like a "Gotcha" type game. And the last time he came home for some r&r, he either got a new ipod or something to make the one he had better, and took it back with him. So, I like to think I help "support the troops" in kind of a personal way, through my son. Tell your husband I said hi, even though he doesn't know me or I him. Every way we can stand together as a united unit, it's one more HUGE way to win the war and come home safe and happy. I'm sure he'll be forever glad to come home to a loving wife as you sound to be. Been deployed to Iraq.
If you run out of stuff AAFES gift certificates from the website.
Car, truck and outdoor magazines. DVDs even if you don't like them you can trade em. Crossword or puzzle books, and drawings from the kids.

Here's a few things I sent my hubby his favorite cookies, (which were broken but he still ate them)lol, I made him a photo albumm and I made him a heart pillow (he still has it). He was in Saudia over valentines day oh yeah and a stuffed bear. I also had lots of love notes and scriptures for him. the little things mean the most when they r away.

I had a friend that had her mom believing we must have lived in rice paddies. She would send toilet paper, cowboy hats, once got a puppet of miss piggy. We loved the care packages from mom. We never knew what to expect, but knew it would be fun.

Buy him a Nintendo DS, they have games for adults like brain age. Can't forget a package of Oreo cookies, and maybe an article of your clothing with his favorite perfume on it. Hope this helps and bless you & your hubby!!

For those that are being jerks... You should support those that volunteered to help in keeping those rights that you so freely use... and you should be ashamed of yourself...
Stuff that I sent to my husband... I found a scarf that he could carry with him the easily catches smells.. I wore it every day for 3 months... and sprayed it with my perfume... and sent that... he loved it...
When I cut my hair short I also sent him a lock of my hair...
yeah yeah I know I'm cheesy...

Mini bottles of good whiskey. Those were worth their weight in gold in the Gulf War, to drink or to barter. They're easy to pack for shipping and stand up well en route. Just pack 'em with some wadding, and tape up the bundle well.
