and she has two of them in a cage together i don't know if they are male or female but they don't get along & they chase each other & peck at each other.. i don't have another cgae to separate them & cannot afford one. I tryed to hold them & take one out so they don't bite each others heads off but they get scared & run away when i open the door of the cage. Any suggestions.

They stay in the same cage while your aunt is there, don't they? If that's the case, then they probably fight all the time. Just ignore it.

You should ask your aunt before trying anything, but if they are picking on each other constantly, they might stress each other until one gets sick. First of all, try to figure out why they are fighting, and maybe you can think of an easy solution. Sometimes parakeets squabble over favorite perches. If this seems to be the case, move the perches around so that they both have their own perch high up in the cage. They usually fight over the highest perch. If there are not a lot of perches in the cage, you can use dowels or sticks to make new ones. Then, make sure they are not fighting over food and water. If they are, offer another food/water dish. You don't really need to buy dishes, just use a little yogert cup or something for water, and a yogert lid with some seed, set on the bottom of the cage. If they still fight, try putting a mirror in or next to the cage, and they may be distracted by the new bird in the mirror. Also, you can switch around the toys, and even hang a washcloth or something to divide the cage up, so they can hide from each other. They may even hide in a small box. Hanging millet and other treats may help distract them. Finally, if they just keep fighting and are picking feathers out of each other, bleeding, or are just extremely stressed out, and you can't get ahold of your aunt, see if you can find a cage from a rummage sale, or a friend and separate them using a gloved hand. May want to take the cage into a small room, like a bathroom so you can catch them easier if they get out. Then, tell your aunt to get a bigger cage for them, or separate them. Hope this helps!

Getting a 2nd cage is the answer. Cages are inexpensive. Check garage sales, Salvation Army, thrift centers...you can purchase a cage (nothing fancy) for between $3 and $10. Borrow the money from someone so you can have your own peace of mind. They are probably 2 males fighting for domination (check with a pet store on this). Of course, as a final solution, you can let one out of the cage and out of the window. Just tell your aunt one "escaped".

I have rescued birds for years, I am a Bird Groomer and own a Pet Sitting Business, " Angel's Walk Wih Me", in Seattle, WA. You NEED to get another cage. FInd one! Borrow one or buy one at a 2nd hand store or something, just make SURE it's size appropreate for the bird. Too big is ok, too small is NOT!! Clean it WELL with soap and a little bleach. Bird diseases spread rampid, even in an old cage with dried crusties in it, and even though it may LOOK clean! Make sure you clean it yourself. You DO however need to seperate the birds. The one will eventually peck the other to death. I do want to ask you a few questions though. Have you moved the cage, added anything to it, or done ANYTHING different with the m sence your Aunt left? You may contact me at my e-mail address if you wish.

The most inexpensive way I can think of is to slide some pieces of cardboard between the bars to divide off the cage. Put a cup with water and one with food for the bird on the other side of the cage.

If your aunt normally keeps her parakeets in a cage together there isn't a problem. Feed them, clean their cage, and leave them alone. Parakeets often squawk at each other.

This is coming from an expert, even though I am 12 years old.My parakeets,Sunny and Daisy fight all the time.Sometimes they stop when you wet them with a spray bottle and they always stop when you cover their cage with a cover.DO NOT TRY TO HOLD THE PARAKEETS.They are very gentle and delicate.I hope my advice works.

Did your aunt leave you any suggestions on what to do when this happens. This is probally not a new problem, and your aunt must be aware of it. Can you contact your aunt and ask her what to do? What does your mom say?

yes....buy some Shake & Bake (they don't make it specifically for parakeets but the chicken should work nicely) and start shaking and baking. Yum Yum!
