Yes. Chocolate should always be stored in a cool dry place. About 60 degrees F. If stored properly it will last up to 2 years.
When the white poweder starts to form on the chocolate, this is called blooming. It has very little effect on the flavor. It is the result of sugar being "pushed" to the surface from aging or temperature changes (high or low). Chocolate that has bloomed can still be eaten.

Lol! Unfortunately yes. My husband was in the navy and the chocolate on the ship had been there so long that when they opened it it was powdered and tasted like chocolate chalk! Icky! It takes a year or more for an unopened chocolate bar to reach that point though. An opened one may deteriorate MUCH faster and get bugs in it. Eeeew.

Yes,Chocolate contains water. When yoy leave a Chocolate for a period of time aging. Water will come out and flavors may change a lot.

Yes. After a while it turns white and gets wholes in it and maggots can grow in it. I know this from when I hid my halloween candy and didn't find it until a couple months later. Very gross!
