I don't know the English name, but we had a long piece of rubber string both ends tied together, two girls were standing facing each other in a distance with the string streched around their ankles, and the third of us was jumping in and out, up and down between the two parallel lines of the rubber string. There were more and more difficult tasks to do.
And there was "Colour Shark": There were 2 long parallel lines drawn on the ground with a distance of about 5 meters. The kids were standing next to one of the lines and the "Shark" was in between the lines. The Shark chose a colour, and those who could show something of that colour on their clothes could pass without any problem. But those who did not wear anything of that particular colour had to run to reach the other line - the other shore I suppose. If the Shark caught one of them he or she became the Shark.

In high school we had some very big, bushy trees. We used to throw a tennis ball up and try and catch it. Once it bounced off about 15 branches it was funny seeing everyone running round like headless chickens. We had loads of fun and laughs.
In junior school though I was the one with the plaits and they used to play ponies with me because I had reins.

We used to play tag, kickball, and jumprope. We also used to play on the swings and all the other playground toys. When winter came we would slide down a big hill of ice in snow pants. We played hand games too.

Tick (other people call it tag and tiggy). What we called American skipping, where a large band was made by linking rubber bands. Also skipping with two clothes lines doing "long wackadoo", "short wackadoo", and "long/short sugar sugar".
I've just noticed that the previous answer has given a good description of what we called "American skipping".

Sports and it was dependent on the season.

I loved playing baseball and still do. I'm an educator--responsible for playground supervision--and when I can I play with the children during their recess.

It's great fun!

We used to play "Ackey" which is like hide and seek tag; and we used to play "British Bulldogs" and "Polo" which is too complicated to go into now! We played ponies too!

Great question. We used to play British bulldogs (which always ended with many bloodied knees), football, marbles and conkers.
