Yes. There is an excellent course that is sold on DVD (when I became familiar with it, it was on VHS) - it is called 'Destinos.' You may have seen an episode on your local public television channel. It is similar to a course that was developed to teach French. The idea is to slowly introduce the basics of a language and build on that foundation using a story with actors and a plot line. For example, because the story in Destinos has all the members of a family, right off the bat you learn all the terms. And everyone is introduced to each other at a reunion so you learn the words of introduction. It is a very well made 'soap opera' that teaches you Spanish with stops along the way for grammar and vocuabulary lessons. I believe the locations are all over, such as an office in Miami, a villa in Spain, an apartment in Puerto Rico, a market, a museum (and on and on...) Very entertaining. Everyone speaks clearly and slowly enough to be understood. It comes with a text book. It's a little pricey new (you can probably buy it from the store at your local public broadcasting station or their catalog) but you can probably find it on eBay too.
Really enjoyable. You still have to practice but you can do that with your daughter-in-law!

Hmm, keep in mind that, on the finish of the day, it is your possess alternative, however I'll provide you a few of my recommendation... If you are deliberating studying a language for a profession, you fairly ought to recognize what profession you are deliberating! A profession in huge trade could absolutely advantage from fluency in Chinese which, in spite of having a fame for being fiendishly complicated, will repay huge-time. In distinction, Arabic is predominant in case you occur to uncover your self operating there one day. Although you will have to feel accurately approximately this, the US govt (with a bit of luck!) has learnt its courses approximately influencing the Middle East in war and it is possible that President Obama will ease the grip at the Arab global set out via Bush. In my opinion, studying Chinese could have a extra long lasting use within the long term long run. Also, this can be a delusion that Spanish is very similar to Arabic; the Arabs as soon as got here to Andalucía, however the Spanish language of at present and state-of-the-art Arabic are unrelated. You are surely a expert linguist, however I would not inspire you to hurry into doing as many languages as you potentially can. It might be a lot wiser and extra moneymaking to take some time with German (a fairly difficult language in itself!) and bear in mind if it is valued at studying a brand new language whilst the right time comes. I say this certainly due to the fact I am assuming you're a pupil as you could have talked approximately long run profession customers (I apologise if that is an over-drawn assumption!) Hope I've helped in answering your query and well success with anything you emerge as doing. Y Feliz Navidad! lol

Rosetta Stone is by far the best. But Teach Yourself series is incredible too. I learned German from the latter. I am currently learning Hindi.
The problem with Pimsleur courses are that it is taught to you like you are a child. Which is fine when you ARE a child. BUt since we as adults are much more advanced in our thinking, it is very hard for us to go back to incomplete sentences, missed punctuations, etc.

No, none of them are good. Besides, I have seen that many people in this country who think they know Spanish, looks like they learned it in China.
Find a good Spanish teacher, a living one. That is the only way

i hear rosetta stone has the best online program. it's a little pricey, but worth it. you could always take a "conversational" spanish class at your local community college (not beginning spanish, unless you want to learn all the basics and important specs of the language).
