He didn't change it; He replaced it. This could not be done until the law was fulfilled:

Matthew 5:17 ¶Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Once it was fulfilled, it could be (and was) taken away:
Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Specifically including the Ten Commandments:
Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
7 ¶What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

It had fulfilled its purpose in bringing men to Christ:
Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Judaism is one religion, Christianity is another. Jesus preached a new way that was set out by Paul. While they may seem similar, it would be a contradiction to Judaism to have a "modification."

He didn't change it at all...Fundamentally those that still practice the religion are the same. For the guy who said he fulfilled it...FALSE prophet that didn't meet more than 80% of the criteria for being the "Messiah". If in fact Jesus died for humanities sins than why is there still sin today? Humanity should have ceased to exist at one of two times in Jesus' life...at the time he died on the cross or when he was initially resurrected (initially because many Christian sects believe the failed Messiah will be back). FYI and that guys the Jews were "chosen" by God (if there is one) to be living penance for the sins of humanity...that's why they are persecuted and have lived in turmoil for all these years. PEACE!

This reminds me of the Joke about what Jewish merchants do on Christmas day.

They sit around the house counting money singing "Oh What a Friend we have in JeeeeeeSusssssss.."

The answer to the questionis simple, Christianity made jews Seriously (and justifiably) paranoid.

he did not.

what he was trying to do was encourage people to follow not only the law but the spirit of the law.

afterwords Paul took his efforts and created a new religion with Jesus being a demi god
