Pet stores sell puppy mill dogs - bad breeding, bad health and they are expensive - ask your parents to adopt.

Any pet store that carries dogs should be boycotted. I can't even set food inside one without wanting to strangle every human in it. ALL dogs for sale in pet stores are from BAD, CRUEL breeders that don't care about their dogs. They just breed for money, and usually don't get more than $50 for each pup. The pet store then sells them for $500-$600 to make them seem high quality, but they will most likely have health and behavioral problems. No good breeder would ever hand over his/her puppies to a wholesaler or pet store. They would want to meet the buyers and make sure they would be good owners. Go to a GOOD breeder that doesn't let her females have more than 1 litter a year and has pedigrees and heath guarantees, and a clean, nurturing environment for all their dogs. Make sure to meet both parents, as they say a lot about what the pups will be like. Or, go to a shelter or rescue! Try petfinder.org!

you should NEVER buy a pup from a pet shop i managed one for 3yrs or so and i noticed the people who will sell their puppys to a pet shop are BAD breeders inbreeding mix breeding, fake papers ect. and the shop payed about $50 maybe $100 for a "deirable" breed and then do no vet care and sell the pup from $300-$1,200. i recomend adopting- petfinders.com is a great place to go and find any breed yes pure bred rescue leagues--and if you can be patient or just get lucky they get puppys too!! and for any reason the adopted animal dose not work with your family you can bring them back to the league and try another even.. i have worked at a dog/cat kennel that helps many rescue leagues for several yrs now--and i have seen many great dogs and pups every day!! so please don't litter--safe a life and adopt:) BUT if you refuse to safe a life find a breeder that has a very good line of dogs and will let you see at least the mom preferably both parents (gives you an idea what you will be getting...most good breeders have to be very expensive because of the vet care, cost of parent dogs ect. and to try to prevent potintial "bad" owners among other reasons, depending on the breed and local good breeder can range any where from $400-2,000 and up !! well good luck i hope you research the breed and find the right pet for you

What kind of dog are you looking for? Usually you will have better luck buying from an actual breeder as opposed to a pet store. They are usually healthier and better pettigreed. Make sure that you pick the right breed for your personality and not just cause its cute. Trust me. I have 2 dogs that I wish I could find a home for.

Where are you from?? There is a pet store at the mall and petsmart has adoption days for cats and dogs. I don't know why you would want to by a dog at a pet store, most likely has come from a puppy farm.

Hmmm, wondering if Pet Smart in Peoria has dogs near Springfield? When was the last time you checked your telephone yellow pages?

DO NOT buy a dog from a pet store.
No matter how convincing they sound or how cute the puppies.
There are several sites to look up breeders of puppies that are reputable. You can start with the AKC site or Infodog or just do a google search....
but DON'T buy from a pet store!!!!!!!!!!

Don't buy from a petstore. Go to a shelter or a rescue group.

Emily - for what it's worth, you can completely boycott stores that sell puppies and kittens and let them know exactly why. There are plenty of stores out there that support rescue efforts instead of adding to the problem, who would love to have your business.
