Simple, just talk to GOD, let him know that you want to have a relationship with him, and also ask him for guidance. He will answer in ways that you will understand. GOD is like a prefect father,,,ready to teach when nessary and LOVE always, even when you don't know any better.

The four basic ways are: 1. Communication, 2. Creation, 3. Meditation, and 4. Personal Experience.
Communication includes prayer (be specific in your prayers asking God for help in getting to know Him), Bible reading, going to religious meetings that teach the Truth based on God's word. Creation is all around you, just observe it, study it, enjoy it. Meditation means taking time to reflect on the things you learn and ask how it should affect your life. What does it mean to you. Of course, personal experience will come when you see God answer your prayers and see how applying His wisdom to your life makes you a better person. Remember Acts 17:27 " . . .he is not far off from each one of us."

I appreciate highly this great question.
I have no answer, but I wish you allow me to bring up some suggestions for your decision and action. Because I have sought for more than 20 years and I have thankfully found the One True God.
Please read with searching mind the books of any monotheistic religions such as Buddhism, Christianity, Baha'i... and books in any other scientific, philosophic, social fileds. Then seek occasions to discuss with people who have faith in God (some may tell you supperstitions, prejudices, formal rituals, but others may tell you reasonable and scientific things. And as you are seeking, you are in a favorable condition to see what is suitable to your purpose, your thinking and your vision.
In seeking God I feel that we must humbly, sincerely, patiently try to get the idea of why and how to pray, to meditate and to receive the guidance of God. Through His divine Messengers, God promises that He will unfailingly guide anyone who seeks Him.
Pray for your progress.

HIs love letter to you. The Holy Bible, King James Version. Start by reading the 4 gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. After you have gotten to know Jesus, simply ask him to make himself real to you. he will honor that request. Ask him to save your soul. He will if you ask. Salvation is a gift of God. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that Whosoever believeth in him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. The only way to get to know God, is through his Son. John 14:6

Take a drive to where there's fresh air and trees...perhaps a stream and mountains. Get out of the car and take a breath...that's how you'll know God (if there is one). Now, get off your **** and volunteer to help those that are more needy than youself...give to charities (NON-SECULAR) that help others. These are the best paths to God. PEACE!

If you want to get to know God, you have to pray and ask him. You can also start reading the bible and going to church. Things like this will bring you to know him and also bring you closer. It feels so good to know God and be close to him.

Through the standard process of self realisation which includes talking transcendental knowledge from a self realised soul.
Just try to learn the truth, by approaching a bona-fide spiritual master, inquire from him submissively and render service unto him, the self realised souls can impart knowledge unto you, because they have seen the truth.

My Dearest...you already know God...you are a part of Him/Her...a piece of the totality. And no, you don't need a book, or a church or tabernacle, or any other human object or human being to see this in yourself...not even a mirror. You are, and always will be...

Depends on what kind of God you want to know.
I suggest researching what kinds of "Gods" are out there and listening to your heart about what kind of God you want to believe in and worship. There are plenty of people out there who will want to persuade you to join them and their religion... but you and God should be the only ones involved in your relationship.
Try talking to him in your head and being open to hear answers.
Good luck!
