This afternoon I came out of our local clinic and noticed that the car beside my van was running. Inside the car was a baby still in a rear facing carseat. I hit my stopwatch and after a minuet and a half I wrote down the make and moddle of the car along with the plates. I went in and told a receptionist who came out with me. After 5 min. no parent showed up. The receptionist took the baby in. I don't know how long it took someone to notice their child was gone but I hope he/she never see her again.

I think you were right on. You observed a baby unattended, and before making a haste decision, you waited one minute and then took action. I'm so happy there are people in the world like you. I hope this mother gets in trouble with the police and child services. The parent should be looked in on for a year by child services, to make sure there's no other type of child abuse. That would be a major inconvenience and embarrassment to that parent, which would serve her/him right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the police should have been called. Who in Hell would leave a baby in the ******* car. That just really upsets me because there are alot of crazy people in the world. I would just die if anything happen to my 23 month old daughter. I'm sorry that person shouldn't be able to have the baby back. The baby could have died sitting in the car for so long.

Ok, every parent is guilty of this somewhere down the line. Whether its a baby, toddler or school-aged child. If my daughter is sleeping, and i have to go in to a gas station and pay for gas i wont take her out just to run in for 1 minute, especially right now, its like 95 degrees outside in my small town, and i always leave the a/c on when shes in there. If the mother was possibly going in to pay a bill or something, she might not have realized she was going to be so long, personally i think its a bit harsh to send someone to prison or take their child away just because someone was timing them in a doctors office.

hopefully the car had air in it. I think it is wrong to leave a child in the car. I will not even go pay for gas or a soda and leave them in the car. What if somebody saw the car running and decided they wanted to steal it. Then where would that parent be. I think if the are selfish enough to leave a small child in the car, then they don't need kids. It is just so sad haw many children are abused in this sort of way. Where is our society taking us???

Hopefully the air conditioning was running - because in this heat a baby could die in very short time.

I think the police should have been called after 5 minutes. Even if the parent only needed to use the restroom, the child should have gone in with them.

I wouldn't have even gone so far as to do what you did. I would have called 911 IMMEDIATELY! With as hot as it has been lately, NO child (or animal for that matter) should be left in a vehicle unattended for ANY length of time!

I hope that when Child Protection/the police showed up to deal with the child, that the parent was arrested IMMEDIATELY for child endangerment! What a Stupid person that parent was!!

I would have called 911.. But glad you didn't just leave it alone and ignore it. I hope the receptionist did call 911 and justice is served for the poor kid. Since the parents didn't care enough to take the trouble of taking the child with them.

You should have called the police ASAP and forgotten the stopwatch, leaving an infant in a car alone is illegal. I agree, the parents should never see their child again. I commend you, at least you did something to help that baby.

That is called child abuse. You should of phoned the police. No one should ever leave a child in a car, running, or not. This parent shouldn't be allowed to have this child back. This is a different world then it was 40 yrs ago. I wouldn't even turn my back on my kids in a cart in a store.

This is something the authorities should know about--Child endangerment or something....What was the temperature and was an air conditioner on in the car?
It sounds like some parenting classes and or at least a fine or something should be given.
Did anyone report this? That would be the first step I think
