What exactly are these scriptures saying in regards to a Christian wife's place in the home? Is she supposed to just do as she is told?

I think it is saying less about the wifes role and more about the husbands role and how a wife should be treated. This is a huge discussion. you really should discuss this with a spiritual person who studies the bible daily. These verses say so much more than a simple answer on this site could do justice to.

The husband is supposed to love his wife and sacrifice everything for her, just as Christ sacrificed everything for us.
The wife is supposed to love and respect her husband, and uphold the decisions he makes, when he treats her in the fashion described above.
It takes two to tango! (Try saying that 3 times, real fast.)

It's telling men to do right by their wives and wives to do right by their husbands. It's a partnership relationship. Men lead and if Worthy of following women should follow them. Men should treat their wives as their own bodies. Normally men would not just go around hurting themselves so they should have the same respect for their wives and not hurt them.
