Your natural foods store should have a healthy alternative to Gatorade, to prevent loss of vital body salts.
If you've lost a kidney, your doctor should have given you some precautionary advice about the function you have left.
Drink cool, not icey water. Stay away from alcohol and caffeine (tea, coffee, Mtn. Dew) when you know you're going to be out in the heat. Avoid heavy meals, especially meat and sugar and very spicey things. NO SODA POP.
Seek shade, work when it's cool, especially in the early morning. Take breaks and go into a cool place. Wear lightweight, light colored clothes. Cover your head with a thin, wet piece of cloth. If you live in an air conditioned home and have to work where it's not cooled, it's best to get into it gradually. Your body will actually acclimate in time.
If you feel sick to your stomach or stop perspiring, it's time to seek immediate medical attention.

Put half-full bottles of water in your freezer, then fill them the rest of the way with water just before you leave to go somewhere and always take them around with you. Drink this ice water as much as possible to keep you cool and if you start getting too hot stop and take a break immediately while sipping your ice water. You don't want to stop drinking the ice water at any time because if you get too hot and then drink ice water on a hot empty stomach it could make you sick, so make sure the ice water drinking is a continuous thing. Being so hydrated all the time will be good for your kidney. Getting heat exhaustion would not. Good luck!

Gatorade or other sports drinks can keep you sufficiently hydrated to ward off heat exhaustion.

first, try to stay indoors. if you're indoors, shut all the blinds (especially if there's no air conditioning). if you have to be outside, wear a hat, put sunscreen, and drink as much water as possible!!
