I am sure that this person could enjoy a phone call from you instead considering your recent surgery. Begin with "I'm sorry I couldn't be there in person, but I wanted to call and let you know I am thinking about you." and go from there. That way you minimize any possible risk and your person knows you have them in your thoughts. I hope this helps. Hugs, JG

Phone call would be better for you AND them. If you had a splenectomy then you know the risks. Phone, send a gift and card. Tell them you will see them when they get out of the hospital.

If your friend is infectious, he/she will not be allowed visitors. If visitors are allowed, there is no danger.
