Yes a person can. An overload of negativity can cause depression. I learned that awhile ago. I stopped watching the news or anything with violence. I know all this bad stuff is there, but I needed to let it go. Even people that are angry, rude, I just leave. I try to totally try to keep only positive things in my life. But I also know that I can't view the world through rose colored glasses, so to speak. But I found I need a whole lot more balance.

Well yeah...ever heard of garbage in, garbage out? It's more-less true. Many studies have been done that show the more violent images and concepts you're surrounded in, the more you will be inclined toward either similar violence or depression.
However, there are a lot of other factors. Certain people are, of course, naturally suseptable toward depression and sorrow, and for these people, things like negative things in news, movies, etc. can be an easy trigger for that natural depression. And it works the opposite way too; some people won't be affected no matter how many negative things come their way. Like all things in life, there are a lot of factors being tossed into the mix.

Yes. Absolutely! Try and limit your exposure to all the terrible things the media loves to report on constantly. Take a breather. Also, horrendous negative movies and music can also lead to depression. To me, these are NOT in the least entertaining and just go for a fast buck from the watcher/listener.

No.
Clinical depression is caused by a chemical imbalance. Depressing media can make you feel upset for a short period of time, but it will not change you brain chemistry.

totaly true, it happens when someone becomes way to connected to those things. soon that person will start thinking and acting that way. eventually he/she will need mental help at the end, or just snap out of it sooner or later somehow.
