IMHO, it really depends on how you plan to use the vehicle. If you're just using it for around town driving with occasional turnpike driving, I would say no. Mainly because to keep it properly maintained is more expensive than a gas engine (about $60 for an oil change!), plus you've got all that extra power that's going to waste. However, if your pulling a good sized trailer or a lot of heavy payloads, especially on long trips, the diesel is the way to go!

I have driven diesels pick up trucks for more than 15 years .They will last longer if you take care of them, but short term ownership may not be worth it.
I have a 1999 dodge 3500 truck, that has 550,000 miles on it,,but it does not get great MPG ,it gets about 16 miles to th gallon.
If you trade cars every 2 or 3 years, stay with gasoline/Unless you are pulling a trailer allot.

If you do a lot of driving usually get more mileage out of a diesel. But check the stickers for the mileage rating on gas and diesel. I know ford diesel gets real bad fuel mileage.

i'm unfamiliar with any diesel cars that are not made by Volkswagon. that being said, I'm seeing too many VW's in our shop to recomend buying one. If your talking about a pickup, diesel is the only way to go if your hauling or pulling heavy stuff, otherwise find something gas or E85 compatable

I think so, but to each his own. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with the CTD. I get about 20MPG combined highway/city. Plus the extra power is great for pulling whatever is thrown at you.
