Could be the tape is getting worn. I've had it happen before (opened the tape cut out the chewed part, taped the ends together with scotch tape, closed it back up) but never had a machine that consistently ate tapes, so I always figured the problem was with the tape (it had stretched out, or gotten a wrinkle when rewinding).

The VHS machine is the problem...
the motor in that machine is moving too faster or too slow....which makes the tape jammed inside the VHS machine...

Both. VHS is very old technology in these days of DVD and UMD and coming soon Blu Ray Disc and High Def DVD. it just means that the VHS player got old or the VHS movie itself is a little old. Upgrade to DVD andif you have favorite movies or home videos, you can get those copied to DVD as well.

use a VHS head cleaner on your vcr every few months that will help ....99.9 % of all my tapes that were eaten was because of a dirty VCR

50/50 either way. a loose belt will cause it, or a tape thats binding.
