It depends on whom you ask

Without any shadow of a doubt it works. Like anything else, you will need to get it right. Sometimes we feel our prayers aren't answered because we do not see them through as we had hoped. How can we possibly ask for something and have an idea of what the answer should look like? Well in that case we are better off doing it our way. I strongly believe all prayers are answered, but we fail to realise that. God is very interested in the reason of you wanting something. Unlike humans He can know what is in your mind, so you can not fake it. He would never give you something that would would be the cause of your destruction. What I mean is, although you may ask for something with good intentions, if He sees that as a danger He will not grant it . Learn how to pray effectively, and remember that your prayers are always answered

"Prayer" as most Christians understand it ie. a request (often made aloud) to God for intervention / help almost certainly works.

Like the VAST majority of religious behaviours they are re-packaged versions of things which human beings have known to be true for years.

A "prayer" can be thought of as an "affirmation". A declaration of something you desire or require made aloud.

I doubt anyone can explain authoratively why affirmations work but I suspect it has a lot to do with switching on our subconscious mind to a problem. When it finds a solution we are often astonished by the result or the method of its arrival.

Hence people that believe in the power of prayer often attribute the results they get to a higher power.

Prayers are just affirmations.

I believe the bible to be inspired by God. The bible tells me "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous (person) avails much". I am not righteous in and of myself, but I am righteous through my faith in Jesus. Therefore, if God says these things, they will be so.

Jesus also said, "whatever you ask for in my name, you shall surely have it".

My prayers are always answered. Why? Because when I pray about something, I always use the example of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemene, "not my will, Father, but your will be done".

There is nothing more powerful than prayer. There are many people who know this...they are among the most fortunate people on earth.

Yes it does but only if it is in your best interests for it to work and I don't mean materially.
Material objects mean nothing to God and Spirit, nor ultimately to you.
Praying for the good of others is especially potent, but not if it is not in their best interest. Example:
Praying to keep a very ill person from passing over, when it is their time to go is not in that person's best interest.

Pagans and Wiccans when praying (or as some would have it - casting a spell) always add to end "with harm to none"; ensuring that we do not inadvertantly cause harm to another by misphrasing or not thinking through what we ask for properly. Harming another, even innocently would invoke the law of threefold returns - Karma would harm us in return, only 3 times greater.
That is why Wiccans and Pagans will NEVER call another religion "satanist" or wish another to "burn in hell" as some supposedly religious people would.

I've seen healing prayer work, mainly in non believers. I've seen my own prayers answered and heard testimonies of other people whose prayers have been answered. The problem with us is we expect instant answers and God doesn't work like that. sometimes too the answer is no, if what we ask for will hurt us.

The Power of The Mind does.

No.
What people perceive as "power of prayer" is a very intense form of autosuggestion or autosuggeration. It is a psychological condition close to self-hypnosis and know to used in many of the world's organised religions.

Yes, it sooo does! I pray for everything, and God answers it, but it may not be in the way you expect. And, God doesn't answer your prayers in your timing either, he has his own time, as flustering as it may be. But the power of prayer really does work.
