satan- that's why.

Think about when the Romans beat Jesus- why? They didn't beat the two thieves at the Crucifixion site- Just Him.
I find it amazing that His name brings out the best and the worst in people.

Satan fears and hates Jesus. He knows he only has a short time to do all the damage he can so he gives the unbelievers a spirit of hate for Jesus and Christians. There isn't a middle ground, you either belong to Jesus or to Satan. Evil hates good, darkness hates light.

Evil will always bring out the hate - Christians have been persecuted back to the Roman times - when people hear the Truth they either respond positively to it or hate it - so hate is what you see most of:

It's PEOPLE who bring out the hate. I think we associate the name with being told we're doomed and damned and going to hell if we don't believe........I think Jesus was a man, plain and simple. Did some good things but so did Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. & many many other people.

Because of what people did.. and still do... in that name.

In and of himself, Jesus was a fine human being. But his followers have decided to take up a holy mission in his name to make everyone believe the way that they THINK he did.

Yet very few of them actually follow all of his teachings. How many Christians do you know that don't judge anyone, that give all they have to the poor, that are utter pacifists, that devote the vast bulk of their time to helping and teaching people? I'm guessing not many.

Jesus foretold at Matthew 24:9 that
"People will deliver you (Christians, those bearing Christs' name) up to tribulation and will kill you, and you will be objects of hatred by all the nations on account of my name."

But he continues to say in verse 11 that
"And many false prophets will arise and mislead many."
So some nominal Christians would mislead or be misled because of false prophesying. They would bring reproach on Christ and his people, but ultimately Jehovah God, Jesus' Father, because he provided Jesus to be our model, and our Savior.

Satan hates Jesus and Jehovah. He wishes to mislead all.
2 Corinthians 11 :13 says that
"For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ."
But notice the next verse, Verse 14
" And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light."
Satan misleads people and makes it appear as if some truth or vision, what have you has come from God, when in reality it has come from Satan to mislead many.
And the people that call themselves Christians that are being misled, they cause people who don't believe to view them as hypocrites and thus the hate intensifies.
:(
But all will be changed soon by means of God's Kingdom. :)

A better question would be why do the alleged followers of Jesus spew so much hate.

Why indeed. I think some of his followers might mis interpret things and bring out hate and a bad reputation

Those who would hate Christ and the Truth He brought find Him to be a threat...a threat to their life's mission (to live without responsibility or accountability to anyone or anything). Jesus doesn't teach hate...He teaches us Truth (not just love, but responsibility and accountability, Christian living, etc). It is not His name that brings hate...it is those who feel Him to be a threat.
